📸 Yes, I’ve got plenty of tricks at my sleeve and watch closely for the right moment. BUTTTT- let’s be honest, nobody knows your children better than YOU.

😁 You know what gets their attention and smiles.

☺️ You know what makes them feel comfortable and secure.

🤔 So take a few moments and…

1) Think through these things before your photoshoot and

2) THEN share them with your Photographer to get everybody on the same page. (This is a big reason why I sent out a questionnaire before sessions. I want you to start thinking through these things and start a dialogue.)

👗👖👚I know you have thousands of cute photos of your kids. Family photos are your chance to move from behind the camera to in front of it with your family! Make sure you choose an outfit that makes you feel good and puts you at ease. Picking out clothes for kids and dads can usually be a bit easier!

✨He’s changed so much, but that little smile has stayed the same! 🥰

Most of my clients have opted to create composites out of multiple age milestones, but some choose to create one using multiple poses from the same session. Since I always aim to capture more than just a headshot during my Chattanooga Heirloom Portrait Sessions, the options are endless!

☀️🌸 I know we’re having what our area call “fools spring”, but man oh MAN, these warm temps are giving me LIFE!

👩‍🌾Does this weather make you want to go out and attack your yard? All of the sudden, I’m like, “What do I need to plant?” I tried some zinnias last summer, but failed pretty miserably at tending them. 😬 I’m thinking some hydrangeas near the house might do a better job of keeping my attention.

✨I’ve been a little quiet this winter, but I’m still here and I’m still making art for my amazing clients. (More posts of that coming in the future.)

To be honest, I’ve been trying to get my bearings after we pulled this sweet girl to homeschool for a semester. (Let me serve as a cautionary tale: I said I’d never homeschool, but here we are!)

It certainly was not an easy decision. If you were around me at all this summer, you know how excited I was about, finally having all three of my girls at the same school. But when your child is suffering, we moms do the best we can with what we have to offer!

While there have of course been lots of mixed emotions, I have also felt a true sense of gratefulness that switching to homeschool didn’t have to be a question for our family for this short season. This photography business has allowed me to do what I love AND also have the flexibility to address some unique needs and challenges we have faced in recent years.

All of that to say- I’m grateful for the support of my clients AND for the support of word of mouth, reviews, likes and comments that have kept my business going.

I’m still here and happy to work with you as a Chattanooga Photographer (even if my social media game is gravely lacking for the next few months. 🤭)

✨🖼️📚I truly don’t think print will ever be totally obsolete.

☝️ Am I saying digital files don’t have their place? Of course not! It’s truly amazing how we can walk around with precious memories in our pocket and share them with loved ones around the world. 🌎📱

✨What I AM encouraging you to do is to think LONG TERM about your most priceless family photos.

🙅🏻‍♀️Digital files require extra maintenance that lots of people don’t think about:
- 💿CDs and even USB drives are becoming obsolete.
- 💻Hard drives fail eventually.
- 🤔Do you even remember where exactly you saved your digital files? (I receive enough emails about lost files to know some of you don’t.)

🤞I am hopeful that cloud storage is here to stay, but it presents its own challenges. Will your children and grandchildren know how to log in and access your files? How many THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of photos will they have to sort through to find the good ones? 😳😳😳

🤦🏻‍♀️Do you see how digital files become less convenient unless you are meticulous about organizing and backing up your files? Ugh. 🙄

🤍🤍🤍My recommendation? Enjoy your digital files, but make sure they’re printed too. Most professional photographers likely would be happy to print your session for you and make sure your physical copies are of a quality to last for future generations.
