When Eulogy Collective (SantaAna Haunt) announced their ambitious plan to do a year-round haunt in Orange County, I wondered how they would pull it off, as even the most high quality, fully immersive, terrifying haunted house could struggle during the off season to attract guests beyond Halloween fans. Their excellent solution to drive repeat guests is to use their Anaheim GardenWalk space as a canvas to exercise their various creative ideas, telling different stories with each iteration they put together. It's akin to a traditional haunt evolving their attractions and adding new ones as seasons go past, but Eulogy Collective gets to accelerate their theatrical productions and tell more stories.

Sweet Love offers that nostaglic slasher movie vibe and a unique way to celebrate the month of love. For date nights or horror fans or just anyone wanting to get that Halloween spirit in February, this is a great attraction to satisfy that spooky itch.

My only critique of the haunt has to do with the layout, which features a bit of a crossing between incoming guests and exiting guests that needs to be timed out and seems to lengthen waits. I can see capacity issues constraining Eulogy Collective's ability to break out into greater, repeated success, because the queuing can be a little draining.

Nevertheless, Eulogy Collective has crafted another fantastic haunt, continuing to evolve their scare-making and showcasing their technical prowess and haunted house passion. Sweet Love runs Fridays through Sundays through the first week of March, and I'm excited to see what Chewie and his team have in store for us next!

This past weekend, Eulogy Collective (SantaAna Haunt) debuted its Valentine's Day-themed haunt, Sweet Love, at the Anaheim GardenWalk ! Similar to its Christmas haunt a couple of months ago, this is a completely new theme and storyline and not just their regular Halloween haunted house dressed up in the current holiday theme. Sweet Love puts guests into the scenes of a fictional slasher flick set in the 1970s, where a brutal serial killer known as the Sweet County Ripper is back ten years after his last killing spree!

Though some of the maze spaces are recognizable from Eulogy Collective's previous haunts last year, the experience has been completely transformed from the traditional haunted house of Eulogy Collective's Deadly Sins production and their frightfully festive X-Mas Horror Story in December. Sweet Love really makes guests feel like they're in a movie, utilizing tactics from a tension-building soundtrack to the jarring changing hues of the theatrical lighting to the way the Sweet County Ripper pops out to menace guests themselves or other scareactors playing victims.

I really appreciated the way the scenes unfolded in this iteration of Eulogy Collective's haunted house, with a cinematographic feel that positioned the killer at the end of hallways, appearing out of nowhere between lights going off and coming back on, and even coming from behind at times. Alternating between having the Sweet County Ripper at a distance and then intimately close in his violence enhanced the feeling of anxiety and pressure that really immersed guests into the horror.

Even the climactic finale picks up on the classic "Final Girl" trope and leaves guests scurrying out with a sense of cliffhanger as the Sweet County Ripper battles it out with one more victim. Does the Final Girl survive and end the killer's reign of terror, or is there a sequel on the horizon?
