Freestyle’s Nikon AI/AI-S vintage primes have been lovingly rehoused by the masters at Zero Optik.

Nikkor glass dominated with pro photographers in the 70s and 80s. Even today, these optics still live in a class of their own. Sharp with vintage character. Staggering skin tones. Amazing contrast. Lovely colors. Gentle fall off. When wide open they bloom with that unique Nikon glow. And thanks to Zero Optik’s upgraded 14-blade aperture, the bokeh is now buttery smooth! Zeiss Super Speeds have been some of the most popular, beautiful and trusted cinema lenses ever! These legendary lenses have inspired filmmakers and shot countless classic films, for decades. Few lenses have had such a profound impact on not only the look of cinema but the design of small and fast soulful cinema glass.

Freestyle’s storied MKII Zeiss Super Speeds just got even better thanks to the world class engineering and design team

TLS completely discarded all original mechanics while still understanding that the original form factor of Super Speed lenses were one of the great selling points. To honor the original form factor, TLS has designed the rehousing to be small and compact, keeping them all to a 95mm front diameter. The iris scale and gear now sit on the mount side of the focus, making the layout in line with standard cinema lens industry needs. The front diameter is also fixed so there is no more telescoping or binding up of the focus when using a mattebox. Freestyle chose to swap the original iris for modern circular iris blades and a deliciously creamy bokeh.

Zeiss Super Speeds T1.3 maximum aperture and their compact and lightweight design are still peerless! Whether you are wide-open or stopped down, the images they produce have such unique contrast, beautiful color rendition, vintage and soulful images that still perform when you need that center sharpness. The SKIN kit replaces both front and rear lens elements of the BLACKWING7’s with new, specially formulated, amber coatings, creating warm golden glowing flares and gentle contrast. Modern lenses. Vintage vibes. Oh my!

Using the Viltrox Epic 1.33x Full Frame Anamorphic lenses as the base, has built out a look that honors the legendary Hawk V-Lite 74’s. But with a spin of course! More Barrel Distortion across the focal plane, more pronounced flares, lower contrast, and more subtle fall off with beautifully textured bokeh! Freestyle received our set IronGlass MKII Vintage Soviet Primes back in February, but we haven’t had them in house long enough to announce their arrival! These beauties have finally returned from their 3rd long project. So we’re finally sharing! Yay! 💫

has done a masterful job building their MKII rehousing for these legendary vintage Soviet lenses. Truly stunning design and top notch mechanics! Some of the best rehousing we’ve seen yet for vintage glass!

Each of these lenses has it’s own incredibly unique image characteristics, like the “god flare” of the 20mm Mir, or the famed swirly bokeh of the 58mm Helios 44-2, or the wild and beautiful 85mm Helios 40–2. All of these lenses has its own painterly texture with dreamy flares and are surprisingly sharp in the center of frame. Each lens also has gentle focus fall-off at the edges and deliver excellent contrast with vibrant colours in controlled lighting conditions but when you allow them to really flare, they come alive and that unique character shines!

The entire IronGlass MKII set set also covers Full Frame.

It’s no secret that these lenses have been trusted on huge productions, like Dune 2 and The Batman. Ukrainian-based Iron Glass has now delivered some of the very best rehousing designs for vintage glass on the planet, able hold up to the rigorous demands of any and all modern production!
