Part 2 of ‘s birth story is on ♥️ and let me tell you it is worth the listen. Not only is the listener blessed with valuable information and insight from and some of the ways was nicknamed “the Va**na Whisperer”; we also learn so much about how birth can be from Nikki’s lived experience. Go have a listen.

A night like no other.

talks about this incredible night on with one of her incredible midwives . Birth stories are incredibly important to share, if people feel inclined to share them. When we listen to birth stories, we learn from other peoples experiences and remove stigmas along the way. So if you’re home-birth curious, go have a listen.

And a special shout out to who always floors me with her power-evoking presence in the birth space. I am always in awe of you!!!

And a big thank you to Nikki, for trusting me enough to invite me into your sacred space; and for choosing to share your birth experience with so many. You’re helping so many birthing people by sharing your story and shining a beautiful light of what midwifery care should look like.

It is often in the darkest skies, we see the brightest stars - Richard Paul Evans

Most often than not, birth tends to take place during the darkest hours of the day. There’s a sense of safety in the night, where even the shadows hold you up. Embrace your shadows, and I’ll find the light.

Every birth I have ever had the immense privilege of being invited to has been the best night of my life. The weight of this work is never lost on me. I have the rare honor of witnessing people split into two versions of themselves: who they were before their children were born, and who they became after they were born. I get to witness birthing people reach within themselves for strength, and lean on their chosen birth team for peace and comfort. I bare witness to the first words people utter to their children, to their nieces, nephews, to their grandchildren. I don’t know how I got so lucky to be invited into such spaces. Holy spaces. Spaces where only miracles happen. The weight of this work will never be lost on me.

Thank you for the invitation and for trusting me. This night was one of the best nights of my life.

Happy birthday to my Dream of a friend . A face you see on my feed often. Everyone who knows Britt knows that they are truly blessed and lucky to have someone like her in their lives. Brittany is Love in human form. She shows up for so many people, professionally and as a human being. No matter how much s**t Brittany has going on, she makes room on her plate to be there for anyone that needs it. She’s an active listener, an activist, open hearted, open minded, and has mastered the balancing act of living life as a student and a teacher. I love you so much Brittany. You are love!!! And my muse 😚😚

The most adrenaline pinching birth I’ve been to yet.

My client’s doula, Stacey , texted me that I should start heading over to the birthing center, even though I hadn’t been instructed to do so by my client, Rachel. Rachel had taken a caster oil smoothie, which is known to get things going. And since Rachel has given birth before, we anticipated this birth moving faster than most.

While on my way to the birthing center, I started to receive a flood of texts from Stacey saying, “She’s pushing. Get here fast”. I shared my ETA with Stacey so she knew I was still 15 minutes away.

F**k f**k f**k.

I knew as soon as I got there I was going to have to make a run for it. So every opportunity I had at red lights or when my car was stopped, I was assembling my cameras, hooking them to my harness, getting ready to run.

Stacey’s texts continued on, and she was even keen enough to breakdown where I needed to go, “when you get here just park in emergency and turn on your hazard lights,” she said, “you’re going to run through the big wooden doors,
then make an immediate left,
fourth door on your right,
open it,
then run down the hall,
we are in the last room on the right.”

As I pulled up to the birthing center, I was repeating Stacey’s instructions like a mantra.

Last door on the right. Down the hall.

I did exactly as she said, I threw my car in park with the hazards on. I bolted out of my vehicle, strapping my harness onto me with every quick step. I ran through the big wooden doors, turned left, opened the fourth door on my right, sprinted down the hall, and was met with a loud “WE ARE IN HERE!” I followed her voice and ran into the room, with literally only 10 minutes to spare. And then, River was born.

It was nice to experience one final rainy season in LA before moving to the rainy city that is Seattle. Rain invites me to release and process. Which is exactly my mindset right now. The fact that I am uprooting my life next month is sometimes hard for me to grasp. I wish I could just fast forward to the part where I’m already living in my routine up there. Transitions are the most painful part for me.
