When the little hobbits are fed:

Peaceful. Joyful. One with nature.

Just casually wandering through Middle-earth, happy as can be.

Vs when they’re NOT fed:

THE ORCS HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

Suddenly they’re sprinting after us like we stole the One Ring. 💀

Apparently, the distance between “family hike” and “survival mission” is one snack.

But, that’s all to say, if you’re ever worried about your child is going to handle a family outing, JUST BRING THE SNACKS, and you’ll be fine.

Same place. Same view. Same memories waiting to be made.

But without our kids, it would all feel a lot less alive.

They are the laughter in the quiet places, the wonder in the ordinary moments, and the color in every picture.

They remind us to slow down, look closer, and find magic in the smallest things.

They turn a beautiful destination into a story we’ll remember forever. Because the best part of seeing the world isn’t where we go, it’s who we get to experience it with. Years from now, we may not remember every place we visited, but we’ll remember the way they looked at the world.

And that’s why, for us, the adventure will ALWAYS be more colorful with them in it!

SAVE this for your trip to Kotor, Montenegro

Kotor was one of those places where we thought the Old Town would be the main attraction and would feel a bit touristy…until we realized it’s so much more than that! From catching some truly amazing mountain views of the bay to getting lost in quaint labyrinth of streets, Kotor was more than we expected, so much more that we actually came back on another vacation!

Here’s everything we learned about Kotor in our mini guide 👇

1. Explore Old Town
Get lost! Kotor is a maze of stone streets, hidden courtyards, churches and little squares surrounded by mountains. You really don’t need an itinerary, just start walking.

2. Climb the Kotor steps!
For one of the best views over the Bay of Kotor, climb the steps toward San Giovanni Fortress. It’s steep, exposed and A LOT of steps, so go early before the heat! (But totally worth it)

3. Where to eat.
A few spots we recommend:

📍Pomodorino — a great pasta stop inside Old Town.

📍Senso Bakery — stop for coffee, pastries, burek or the traditional krempita.

4. Enjoy plenty of gelato! Save this for when you wander Old Town and need a break in the heat!

📍Moritz Elis

📍Marshall’s Gelato

5. Take the cable cars into the mountains.
Don’t just stay inside Kotor! Take the Kotor–Lovćen cable car up into the mountains and spend some time exploring Lovćen National Park. The views looking back over the entire Bay of Kotor are incredible.

And if you’re traveling with kids, DO NOT skip the alpine coaster at the top. This was easily one of our kids’ favorite things we did in Montenegro. (DM us for more info on Lovćen)

6. Parking
Get there EARLY, especially during summer or on cruise ship days. Parking near Old Town fills quickly.

If you’re willing to pay a little extra for convenience, Kotorska Luka Parking is right across from the entrance to Old Town. Bring cash!

Last tip:
Give yourself more time than you think. It’s easy to treat Kotor as a quick Old Town stop, but between the fortress, food, Bay of Kotor and the mountains above it, there’s enough here to make it one of the highlights of Montenegro.

6 things we failed at while traveling with kids…

And what they taught us instead. 👉

1. We failed at sticking to the itinerary.

We used to think a successful trip meant doing everything we planned. Now we plan enough to give the trip direction, but leave enough room to actually enjoy it, and that includes sleeping in at times.

2. We failed at getting our kids to appreciate every moment.

That incredible view you traveled halfway across the world to see? They might care more about the snack in their backpack. And that’s okay. They don’t have to appreciate travel the way we do. Let them experience it in their own way.

3. We failed at avoiding meltdowns.

Turns out, you can’t leave tantrums at home just because you’re on vacation. But a meltdown doesn’t mean the day or the trip was a failure. Sometimes everyone just needs food, sleep and a reset, even the parents.

4. We failed at packing light.

We’ve accepted that we may never be the effortlessly chic, carry on only family, we just have a lot of stuff okay? Pack for the family you actually have, not the family you think you’re supposed to be.

5. We failed at making family travel relaxing.

Because honestly, traveling with kids often isn’t relaxing. We stopped measuring a family trip by how rested we came home and started measuring it by what we experienced together.

6. We failed at waiting for the “perfect age” to travel.

Because we realized there isn’t one. Every age comes with something that makes travel harder and something that makes it special. The trips change as they grow, and so do we. We’re glad we didn’t wait for magical number to start traveling with them…it may be our best failure yet!

We’ve failed at plenty of things traveling as a family because family travel isn’t about mastering the perfect itinerary, raising perfectly behaved little travelers or making every trip look effortless.

It’s about figuring it out together, adjusting when things don’t go as planned, and realizing that some of the best memories come from the trips we definitely didn’t do “perfectly.”

Who else is NOT the perfect traveler here? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

THE SECRET TO GOOD INSTAGRAM PICTURES.

Having someone behind the camera who loves you and WANTS to take photos of you!

Someone who takes approximately 47 photos and doesn’t quit until the shot is achieved (even when you are exhausted and you have kids screaming in the back).

Someone who thinks every side is your good side, but knows YOUR SIDE and makes it happen.

Someone who captures the moments you didn’t even realize were worth remembering.

Because the best photos aren’t really about the pose, the outfit, or the perfect light.

They’re about being seen by someone who loves you.

So ladies… find you a man that loves to take the shot. Even if it means crouching behind a bush for it 😂😂
