A poem from my book, The Sky Holds All of This.

My grandmother still looks for me under the breakfast table. I left eleven years ago, and a version of me is still there, being called by name.

There is a word for this in Turkish. Hasretlik. The ache for the people and places that made you.

Coming 2027. Swipe to read Under the Table.

CROWNED is a large-format photography book documenting rare Anatolian women’s headdresses from a museum archive alongside field journeys to the villages where these customs still live.

This needs to exist now, while it’s still alive. Before it becomes something we only see behind glass without knowing what it meant.

I’m looking for cultural patrons and investors who want to preserve a disappearing tradition through art, and for publishers ready to bring this book into the world.

If that’s you, write to us ❤️

A rancher in Oregon and a nomadic tribe in Turkiye, thousands of miles apart, fighting the same fight for the land. That is exactly why I made this film.

Cate Havstad-Casad manages 1,400 acres of regenerative rangeland in central Oregon. She founded Range Revolution to build new market systems for land stewards. She has testified before state legislators about the water rights crisis threatening farmers and the land they protect.

She watched Guardians of Anatolia and cried.

“A way of life purely driven by the love of place and the love of their animals. Their struggles are our struggles and our struggles are their struggles.”

Guardians of Anatolia Film is on the festival circuit now.

A crow gifted me a key today. I think it’s good news! A new friend! 🌞

I asked her if she was the matriarch of the tribe.

She didn’t know the word. When I explained it, she said:

“When you breathe, do you separate male or female oxygen?”

35,000 years ago, the first human art was a female figure. In Anatolia she became Kibele. And somewhere in that lineage, Emine is still walking.

The very first artwork humans ever made 35,000 years ago was a female figure.

From the Pyrenees to Siberia, cultures that never touched each other were carving the same image. That was what was sacred.

On Anatolian lands, she became Matar Kubileya. Kibele. The Great Mountain Mother.

And then I went to film the last nomadic tribe of Türkiye and I met Emine.

She decided when the migration begins. She read the land through her animals. She carried a civilization in her body. Standing there, I thought: she is a living fragment of every goddess this land has ever known.

Guardians of Anatolia has won the Audience Award at Nevada City Film Festival. ❤️

I came to this country with a camera and a story I had to tell. Tonight, Nevada City gave it back to me, chosen by the audience.

When the people in the room choose your film, that is the one that stays with you.

Thank you Nevada City. Thank you to the team that made this film a reality. And thank you to the last nomadic tribe of Türkiye for letting me walk with you. This one is for them.

THANK YOU .

We had our world premiere here. I stood on a panel with people I’ve looked up to for years, genuinely surreal. I got inspired in ways I didn’t expect. And I met humans who deeply care about other humans and about this planet. That alone was worth everything.

Standing on that stage with my parents, who were there from the very first day, the three of us going into the mountains before this film was anything, that’s the moment I’ll carry the longest. So many talented, generous people joined along the way and helped shape what this became.

named me Emerging Filmmaker of the Year. Their support meant everything.

We even brought a little Anatolia to Telluride. Turkish coffee from and lokum from . Because if you’re going to premiere a film about Anatolia, you bring Anatolia with you.

Thank you to everyone who came, who asked questions, who stayed after. To the festival for giving “Guardians of Anatolia” its world premiere home. And to the Sarıkeçili Yörüks, for letting us in.

More screenings coming. Stay close. ❤️
