FROM THE VAULTS - UNRELEASED PHOTOS
In 2018 I was Royal Distortion’s Photographer. I had exclusive backstage access throughout their residencies at The Viper Room and The Whisky on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. Each week I would create portraits in the venue’s green room prior to shooting their live performance.
I amassed a large archive of photos in which I had to sort, process, and breathe new life into. Most are experimental, some are outtakes that didn’t make the cut, and a few are ideas I just had to see how they’d look finalized. Here are a bunch of favorite unreleased photos of Royal Distortion, “From the vaults”.

It was a true honor and privilege to shoot Budderside live at The Whisky. It’s been 11 months since I’ve been to a live rock show, so entering the dark and dusty Whisky brought back all the feels.

The old concert listing hand-outs were still sitting on the bar in a neat stack, with March 2020, April 2020, and beyond completely booked with bands. Who knew all those concert dates would have to be canceled and everything left abandoned? So it was great to finally experience some loud live music again, support the scene, and remember what it was like to rock out and hang with such a great group of people in a legendary venue.

It’s always thrilling to experiment and test out new gear & ideas. Here I’m trying out my new leaf blower to add the subtlest of wind to Gabe’s hair. I was really excited to test out my new fog machine, too. We had a lot of fun creating this “American Rockstar” look on the fly. The American flag really seals the deal, it was hanging on Gabe’s wall. It was a satisfying challenge to shoot with a more complex four-light setup, and I’m really happy with the results.

Berezowski Photo in its infancy. Here Scott Dermott assists me while shooting the People Of Toronto series. I shot this on an old pinhole camera with medium format film. I had to hand-roll the film onto the old spools, while in total darkness. You don’t forget those details!

I’m currently reworking the People Of Toronto images, and they’re looking great so far.
