The Army of Election Officials Ready to Reject the Vote

A movement driven by disinformation about Trump’s 2020 defeat has taken over many of the boards that certify elections. It could cause chaos in the weeks ahead.

Last month I traveled to four battleground states to photograph election officials, lawyers and activists for Jim Rutenberg’s article in

Captions:
1) Jeanne Herman, a commissioner for Washoe County, Nev. She was one of the few local commission members nationwide to vote against certifying a Biden win in 2020

2) Clara Andriola, a Washoe County commissioner. She effectively voted against her own primary victory by voting to not certify a recount.

3) Nicholas St Jon. He believes voting machines switched votes to steal the 2020 election for the chair of the Washoe County commission.

4) Stephen Richer, the county recorder of Maricopa County, Ariz. His criticism of a 2020-election vote audit attracted death threats.

5) Peggy Judd, a county supervisor in Cochise County, Ariz. She was indicted after she voted not to certify the results of the 2022 election.

6) Bridget Thorne, a commissioner in Fulton County, Ga. She proposed a new rule to the state election board that would require election certifiers to conduct more extensive investigations.

7) Matt Mashburn, former acting chair of Georgia’s state election board. A moderate Republican, he was removed this year by the state’s lieutenant governor.

8) Al Schmidt, secretary of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. His office has been holding sessions with judges to make sure they understand new legal requirements for vote certification.

9) Bruce Castor, a lawyer for the “election validity” advocacy group United Sovereign Americans. He defended Donald Trump during his second impeachment, after Jan. 6.

Honored to have three of my photographs from Ukraine in the the book Ukraine: Love+War (2014-2024) by

The book Ukraine: Love+War (2014-2024) is a product of the 2024 FotoEvidence Book Award and it is dedicated to the impact of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine on children and families. It is a collection of photographs and witness accounts by 94 Ukrainian and international photojournalists from 23 countries.

Following FotoEvidence’s historical publication Ukraine: A War Crime, the photojournalism community unites for a second time to document this tragic period in Ukrainian history for future generations.

With texts and images from more than 90 Ukrainian and international photojournalists, Ukraine: Love+War, documents the profound impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine during the last decade. The book focuses on daily life and the disruption, displacement, destruction, and death visited on innocent Ukrainian civilians.

The bi-lingual book was released in September 2024 in Europe and the USA in Ukrainian and English.
