2 weekends ago I received an Emerging Cinematographers Award from ICG: International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600) for my work on Sands of Fate directed by Tim Martin and Patrick Lundberg and produced by Alec Eskander. I barely took any photos so thankfully they had a fellow union member doing so. Very humbled for the honor and it was amazing being in the same company of 7 other incredibly talented fellow honorees. It was also great honoring David Mullen (Marvoulus Mrs. Maisel) and Rodrigo Prieto(Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon) for their work!

It was 3 jam packed days and I recieved some really cool prizes like an Angenieux EZ 30-90 from BandPro, Lee Filters, DMG Dash, and more. Excited for whats to come next and thank you to my entire team, and my wife Gillian Mahar because without them, none of this would be possible.

Incredibly blessed and thankful to be receiving an Emerging Cinematographers Award this year for my work on Sands of Fate. Thank you for the honor. I was at an airport when i got a phone call from a random number. I thought it was spam but for some reason answered and it turned out to be calling to congratulate me. .

Thank you so much to the team that made the film possible especially .lundberg Cant wait to celebrate in September!!

The Trailer for DÌDI (弟弟) dropped today. Sean Wang coming of age master piece we shot last summer. Shout out to Sam Davis for his beautiful work and having me apart of the team.

This film is special for me as it takes places in Fremont CA in 2008 during the same period i was in high school. The film truly nails the time period like no other film and i can't wait for people to see it.

Gillian Mahar's high school photo also made the trailer and mine made the movie!

Today marks 33 years on this earth and I thought I would use it to share this still from our film Sands of Fate. I’ve been wanting to share it for 3 years now since I shot it and still didn’t want to after the films release because it gives away part of the twist. But at this point it’s time to share it.

It’s one of my favorite images I’ve ever shot. The photo encompasses the talents, time, dedication, and passion of so many artist. Everyone I would show asked which Star Wars film or show it was from. We made this on a basically non-existent budget and extremely small crew and it was built in a garage! This scene also landed me my ASC mentorship after years of applying with multiple ASC members from the committee reaching out privately to tell me how impressed they were.

This isn’t because of just me, it’s because of the incredible friends and collaborators who helped bring this project to life and the crews I’ve been blessed to work with for years. I write this to say, find your tribe. Find the people that are just as passionate about something as you are and keep working together. I would LOVE to make more stuff like this with people I’ve never worked with and continue to grow with the people I have.

As I celebrate 33 years of incredible life I leave you with my all time favorite quote from Jim Carrey. “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” Here’s to 2024!

In 2019 we released a short film called Birth of a Monster: A Star Wars Story. It has been seen by over 3.5 million people. Characters made it into the TV shows which means they are now Cannon to the star wars universe. And a scene in our short was redone on the animated series Bad Batch.

Because of its success the team got together to make another one and it’s finally coming out this wednesday. We present to you the trailer for Sands of Fate: A Star Wars Story.

Sands of Fate: A Star Wars Story (Short Film) will release to the public on Wednesday, December 13, 2023
