The Temple of Dawn, Bangkok, Thailand 🇹🇭

The temple is believed to be built in Ayutthaya era (14th-18th century). Formerly it was named Wat Magog and Wat Chaeng, while the current name Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) was given by King Rama II at the time of the temple’s renovation in early Rattanagosin era.

There was also a legend that the name Wat Chaeng was given because King Taksin the Great (1734-1782) arrived at the temple in the morning time. However, it turns out to be a myth as the name Wat Chaeng appeared in an ancient poem long before the era of King Taksin the Great.

The pagoda is decorated with ceramic pieces.
