My amazing friend Kaiy is opening a new restaurant in South Pasadena and I got a chance to photograph some of the deliciousness last week.

Everything is so beautiful and intentional, from the food, to the wine selections, to the gorgeous design — shoutout to — it’s all art in restaurant form. Kaiy and her team did an incredible job creating this space for the community. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

They are open by reservation only for these first couple of weeks and I highly recommend you grab one and experience it all for yourself! 🖤🍷🖤🍴

If I could go back in time and change anything about my life, it would be to whisper to the young version of myself to pursue photography earlier.

I always loved taking photos but never considered that I could turn it into a viable career or had any inkling about how it would open up my world.

It’s taught me how to find and appreciate all of the different qualities and kinds of light. It’s taught me patience and how to really “see” someone and look for the most beautiful things about them. It brought me out for hundreds of sunsets. 🌅

I feel so lucky to do this job and capture this much beautiful human joy in a world that often feels bleak.

So this is permission to all the ambitious young artists: Experiment. Play. Try all the things. You never know where they’ll take you.

This is my son at five-years-old, hugging the first snowman that he’d ever made. He wanted to be a teacher when he grew up because he loved his kindergarten teacher so much and “it’s the goodest job I can think of where I can help people.” Five-year-olds are so full of sweetness and wonder.

I keep thinking about Liam Ramos, in his little bunny hat, who was taken by ICE even though he and his family are here the “right” way, even though he’s five, even though there were family members there to care for him. They sent him to an ICE facility in Texas and I’ll bet he really needs his mom right now.

And I’m thinking of Renee Good’s six-year-old, who should also have his mom right now.

And there are plenty of other Liams. So many broken families because of this evil and cruel administration.

The non-stop cruelty is exhausting and heartbreaking but let’s not look away. Let’s keep our eyes and hearts open and keep “kicking the darkness until it bleeds daylight.”
