The winds of change are blowing and Miss Havishamโ€™s Curiosities and Iโ€™s time at The Wunderkammer is coming to an end.

This is the last full weekend to visit our parlor down in San Pedro. We had so much fun building out this popup space and adored every minute of it. After an amazing year and a half of tea parties and art shows, we are off to new adventures. Be sure to head to our space before it is gone; we have many wares, antiques, frames, and furniture still looking for their forever home.

Thank you to everyone who visited our parlor, joined us in celebration, and gave our work a home. We hope you loved this popup as much as we did ๐Ÿค

In my childhood bedroom hung a poster of Georgia Oโ€™Keefeโ€™s โ€˜๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ง๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, ๐˜•๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ ๐˜”๐˜ฆ๐˜น๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ฐ, 1โ€™; perhaps this is where my obsession with them began.

In them I see unwavering devotion, vitality, resilience, strength, abundance, and steadfast love. I began growing different varieties 6 years ago and with every seed planted, I find new hope in what can feel like a saturnine world.

In each of the sunflowers in โ€˜๐˜š๐˜ฆ๐˜ฒ๐˜ถ๐˜ช ๐˜š๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎโ€™, I found joy as they grew to over 10โ€™ tall, fed bees, songbirds, crows, and ravens; now they live forever in stillness; venerated and adored.

Didnโ€™t make it last Friday? No worries! will have works exhibited for the next 8 weeks! I left behind one of kind pieces, limited run prints, and smaller framed works for you to peruse and available for purchase.

Beginning in 1634, the Dutch Republic encountered an acceleration in tulip bulb prices that would rise to unheard of levels and eventually collapse in a spectacular manner. By the 17th century, its citizens were among the wealthiest people on earth and were looking for ways to display this affluence as well as increase it; the tulip became the surprising vehicle for these ambitions.

Often during this time, no physical bulbs or tulips were actually sold; the trading instead occurred with a โ€œfutures contractโ€, a piece of paper guaranteeing the right to specific bulbs that would bloom in the coming spring. In the mid-1630s a single bulb sold for 46 guilders and changed hands a month later for 515 guilders. Another bulb rose from 95 to 900 guilders in a similar period of time. At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, certain tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled artisan.

However, shortly thereafter the dramatic crash began and traders could no longer find buyers willing to pay increasingly inflated prices for their bulbs. Some were left holding contracts to purchase tulips at prices now many times greater than those on the open market, while others found themselves in possession of bulbs worth a fraction of the price they had paid - Tulipmania is generally considered to have been the first recordedย speculative bubbleย or asset bubble in history.

This new work, โ€˜Tulepmanieโ€™, acts as a reflection on this period and the many times we have seen it repeat in our lifetimes alone.
