Bruce, my soul dog, peacefully drifted to sleep in my lap on Sunday, 4/19 at 1:35pm Hermosa Beach time.
If you met Bruce, you knew the incredible bond we shared. To know Bettina is to know Bruce. He has been my entire chapter in North America. He was our son and our sun. A beautiful light that shone on us every single day.
What a life our boy had: 6 years in Canada and 7 in California. All the travels. All the memories. All the lakes, rivers and oceans he swam in. All the lost tennis balls he found and retrieved. All the commercials he starred in.
His legacy lies in the way he taught us to live life: to stay present, embrace every moment, love unconditionally, lead with trust, stay humble, always make time for play, and not worry about what people think of you.
On hard days, we’d say we are choosing to be Bruce, because of the quality life he demanded. We’re taking a page out of his book and choosing to be Bruce today, and every day for the rest of our lives, as he lives on in us and the choices we make.
His last week on Earth-side was truly about embracing his teachings: fun on the beach, seeing friends new and old, taking in sunsets, chasing tennis balls, eating chewy bones, pizza and steak dinners.
Adam and I are absolutely crushed, but we’re relieved he’s not in pain anymore.
