Birth photography is a constant reminder of why I do this work. The faith families extend to me, and the trust care providers place in me to be a quiet, steady presence in those rooms… I don’t take any of it lightly. To witness a new life arrive, to document it, and to walk away forever bonded to a family I just met… there’s nothing else like it. I’m honored every time I get the call.

E X H A U S T E D . Every year, this season hits like a wave: nonstop holiday deadlines, chasing weather windows, juggling sick kids and school events, editing late into the night and heading out early the next morning for shoots. It’s exhausting in ways we can’t always put into words, and sometimes it feels like we are running on empty.

But then, out of nowhere, there are moments that remind us exactly why we love this work. At the end of this session, I followed these sisters down to the water and watched their bond unfold. It grounded me in the middle of the chaos. I remembered what a privilege it is to be invited into these little chapters of people’s lives.

From an early morning birth to a three hour drive home, I should have been running on empty. Instead, moments like this fill me back up and remind me why I do what I do.

Thank you to all of you who trust us with your families and your memories. And if you’re reading this while waiting on an email response… just know I’m getting there. Slowly but surely 🐢

R O U N D 2 . There’s something so heartwarming about a birth client reaching out to tell me they are expecting again and asking if I can join them for their next adventure. When I heard from Pharis, that feeling was overwhelming. Her birth story isn’t mine to tell but she so graciously allowed me to share some of her photos and I think they speak volumes. B I R T H photography isn’t just capturing the moment a baby is born. The large majority of it is documenting the story of what happens before, after and all around it. These are the moments I am always grateful to have either arrived early enough or stayed late enough to capture. This birth was the perfect example of that, some of my favorite images were taken well before and well after baby boy joined the party. From Birth is not linear, it does not follow one straight trajectory. Instead, birth is a winding path that requires we move and pivot with it, one in which we accept that we don’t know how much longer or how many more, that we can’t guarantee one specific outcome, but that in the end it will have been well worth the road traveled.

Impossible to put everything into words. Birth was the most wild and intense experience. Went to the edge of life and death and back again and would do it 100000x over for this boy. Forever grateful I chose to put my life and birth of my baby in the hands of the team who supported me the entire way . And so very grateful to my husband.

Reading and listening to other birth stories helped me so much leading up to this. One day I’ll share more of our story.. for now I’m healing, getting all of the baby cuddles I can, and loving on Sky.
