"El Mirador Cozumel" (at least this version) is finally finished! I say “this” version because I think I will be remaking it, and in doing so, it will change…..not that I have a current idea about what the change(s) may be.
Although this is my second multi-image canvas (I've also attached the first "Shadows of Club Holding"), the concepts for it actually predate, and to a significant level, contribute to the creation of the first. I saw two collage-based works at the Museo de Cozumel and started to “collect” photos (even shoot images) with the intent of incorporating them into the work.
I intended the central theme to revolve around the concept of observation. The idea hit me several days after the visiting the museum. We were with our friends on the east (Gulf of Mexico) side of the island. Dick was driving fairly slowly so I could shoot photos from the car of crashing waves. We passed the sign and a bird was sitting on it. I asked him to stop. He did, quickly, and I was able to capture the image before the bird flew. The sign, of course, was “EL MIRADOR”. It can be translated as “the watcher” or “the looker” and referred to a wayside where a mini wooden platform was raised to provide a view of the beach…..thus it was a place to watch or look. Everything else relates to that theme. Dick shooting images, MB watching the wave action, watching the dancers and the sunsets, viewing the Mayan ruins, and snorkeling to see the fish…..pretty much what we did every day we were in Cozumel. Oh….the round white things are actually sushi rolls. 😉
