Christina Peters Photography

Christina Peters Photography I've been an award winning commercial food photographer for more than 25 years now. I shoot mostly in Los Angeles and also the Mid-Atlantic areas.

You can see my commercial work here: https://www.christinapeters.com/ I've been taking pictures since I was 8 years old. I grew up in Newark, Delaware. I moved to California in 1989 to attend Art Center College of Design where I received my second degree in photography in 1993 and have been shooting ever since. I'm based in Redondo Beach, the South Bay in the Los Angeles area but shoot all over th

e country. I have family in Delaware and travel there frequently. Over the years I've shot thousands of food images. If time allows, I do my own production. I've coordinated and prepped over 1150 jobs from a one day shoot with a few shots a day, to jobs that were three weeks long, with two sets going, a shot list of 175 images, and a crew of 15 people. The type of gear I use totally depends on the job and it's requirements. For my commercial work, I use medium format cameras with high resolution Phase One digital backs in order to get extremely large, crisp images with beautiful color. I also have done several speaking engagements and workshops at food blogging and cooking conferences throughout the US. My current project is one close to my heart. I created the first food photography membership site called The Food Photography Club. This is a site dedicated to all things food photography, teaching everything you need to know to become a food photographer with video content, live webinars, and a community environment. The Club was launched in April of 2017 and we have several hundred active members. Clients
After dealing with digestion issues my whole life and finally working on it in August of 2015 at the age of 46, I came to realize that I had to seriously change the way that I eat. As a result of this, I pick my clients very carefully now and aim to work with those that have a similar food philosophy as mine. I have extensive experience creating images for ad campaigns, food packaging, menu boards and printed menus, eCommerce, magazines, cook books and other collateral materials to sell a food product. Client Roster
This is just a small selection of some of my clients over the years: Arby's, Baja Fresh, Bath and Body Works, Bristol Farms Markets, Brookside Chocolates, Bumble Bee Tuna, Burger King, Campbell's Soups Souplicty Brand, Cesar Pet Food, Chipotle, Cici's Pizza, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Country Crock, Delaware Today Magazine, Domino's Pizza, Gelson's Markets, Gloria Jeans Coffee, Good Life Dog Food, HarperCollins Publishers, Herbalife, King's Hawaiian, Kraft, Libby's, Marriott Hotels, McDonald's, Nestle, Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism, Pedigree Pet Food, Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt, Rubios Grill, Taco Bell, Tyson Chicken, Whole Foods Markets, UPS, Walmart, Weight Watchers, Wrigley's, several ad agencies in the US and Europe, design firms, national magazines and book publishers.

Hey friends! I'm doing a thing. I'm giving away some free prints to my new fine art collection to help get the word out about it.

Most of you know my commercial food photography, which I am still doing btw, but you probably didn't know that I've been shooting fine art photography for about 40 years now.
That's right I sold my first fine art print when I was 16.

Thing is when I told my dad that I wanted to be a photographer way back, he actually freaked out and said I was on my own if I wanted to do that instead of follow in his footsteps (which was being a chemist at a company he hated).

So he put a lot of self doubt into me about doing fine art photography so I decided to do commercial photography and just do my fine art work on the side.

I moved out as a young teanager and got an apartment on Main Street Newark, DE with 4 other girls (right across from what was Margaritas Pizza) and got several waitressing jobs, went to college for commercial photography and never looked back.

Now that I'm living back in Newark, things have come full circle and I'm jumping into my fine art photography again.

This series is called The Floral Obsession. If you'd like to learn more about it or grab a free print, see my first comment below for a link to my website.

Today's National Frozen Yogurt Day.

The story about this image is below.

Today is National Frozen Yogurt Day!

Many years ago in 2005, a little yogurt shop popped up called Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt. They were a tiny start up with about 7 stores when they called me to do their food photography.

The concept and design was totally in line with my photography style and everything was to be shot on a white background.

The craze that happened after this, no one could anticipate. I shot many images over the course of a few days. We shot the basic flavors and all their toppings on a white background.
Their brand exploded. My images were ripped off all over the world to the point where Pinkerry had to hire a huge copyright attorney in New York to keep up with it all.

At one point over 19 new yogurt brands popped up - all using my photography, it was insane. I was in Washington DC and walked into a Yogurt shop that had all my photography on large LCD tvs all over their store.

I took pictures with my cell phone and the manager had the nerve to tell me I wasn't allowed to do that! I sent my cell phone pics to my client to let them know of another store ripping us off.

It was the first time my photography became a brand's identity. It was pretty cool and yes, I got a lot of phone call to shoot frozen yogurt.

I shot for them for 7 years until they got bought by Kahala Brands.

Have a fabulous 4th!
About this image - it put me off of gummy bears for about 5 years. I ordered about 30 lbs of gummy bears and then sorted them into all the colors. The studio smelled sickly sweet for about a week. I wore gloves to sort them, but that didn't matter, I still smelled like fruit candy.
I built this on a piece of frosted white plexi glass. Lit with one strobe head aiming at white paper under the plexi glass powered very low and then I had a soft box to light the top to get highlights on all the bears.
The trick with this is to NOT have the backlight under the bears get too bright - just bright enough to make them glow a little bit.
Then I removed the white background in post production.
