Lately I've been painting little watercolors that envision the world with carefree children, imaginary landscapes, and bright colors.

I've been doing this because if we don't imagine what could be, we lose possibility. I couldn't understand, at first, why I'm so drawn these days to creating these illustrations, but I think my 'why' is coming clearer.

I have three grandchildren who love the outdoors, love play, love being silly. I want to envision a world that encourages this to continue.

I'm finding that these creations bring me great joy and I can't wait to get in my studio in the morning to create and learn something new with my paint. And ahhh....these have such a calming effect on my psyche!

My camera is still waiting...but today I want my art to be purely imaginary.

My first book is now available on a shelf or online at Boulder Book Store (https://www.boulderbookstore.net/)! There are no words that express the joy this brings me.

In some ways, it is difficult to share personal good news with all that is happening around us. But we must not lose our ability to feel joy, and I believe in this book to provide a few moments of reflection and peace thanks to the extraordinary grace of nature.

Sometimes I wonder if the topics I explore through my art are of value or will leave a meaningful legacy for those that come after. But something about this interview put all that to rest. Talking about "Remember Me (This Way)" and especially hearing Melissa share her thoughts about this work alleviated any lack of confidence. We were interviewed for almost 1.5 hours, then our conversation was edited down to 2 minutes, but I think Colin got his edits just right. Grateful.

The topic of mortality can feel overwhelming. A new art exhibit in Louisville and Boulder seeks to change that feeling, encouraging conversations about death and the legacy one may leave behind.

Today Recreation & Center Center, one of my subjects (Melissa Killian) and I were interviewed by Colin Riley of Denver7 about "Remember Me (This Way)" currently showing at the senior center.

I am so honored that this project is receiving some media attention and hope that it invites introspection to all who witness the work. The experience was delightful and will air tonight on Denver7 sometime after 6!

Remember Me (This Way) is now on exhibit at North Boulder Recreation Center (on the ramp leading to the basketball courts). This project was made possible by local residents who were unafraid of being vulnerable. I am deeply grateful to NoBo Rec Center for creating a space for non-commercial art to be seen by the public. Spaces like this are in short supply.

My work is not edgy enough for some, but the ability to document how we age, what we think about as we age and to dispel common ageist beliefs affects every one of us. The art world is not an easy one to enter--thank goodness for our local businesses!

Dear fellow artists:

We have an obligation.

I hear you. I hear your frustration. You feel like you’ve had enough and just want to turn it all off, focus on your day-to-day life. The energy to talk to anyone who might be on the ‘other’ side has left the building. Why bother, you think? Nothing will change and I need to preserve my mental health.

I disagree vehemently.

This is a moment in history that will require every human being who believes in a humane, tolerant and educated society to do the work.

Would the holocaust have even happened if more voices were raised, if entire communities said, “no!” and protected the Jews in their environment?

I worry at times that liberals don’t know how to play hard ball. We rant, we rave and then we turn inward to ‘get our act together’ while the world burns down. I get it, I’ve been there too.

But you know something? I did not make a difference when ranting and raving on social media aside from really pi***ng off some people and slimming down my page.

I’m under no illusion that I, one small person, will be able to change what is coming. But I know that if I am joined by others, if I find others that are willing to take the risk of speaking out, loudly and locally, there is the possibility of change. No guarantee, just possibility.

Isn’t that enough? Or have we become so soft that we cannot fight like hell to take care of those in our midst who are vulnerable and who need us?

I’m stumbling too. I’m not sure what my role will be, but I will do my damned best to find it.

Please join me and others like me. Understand that this rodeo is not over and you are needed. Get your hands dirty and get involved with whatever you are most passionate about. Gay rights, book banning, putting immigrants in camps, etc. There are people in our midst who need us now.

We have an obligation.
