"The Shadow of Gojira", a cocktail I created for Arts & Spirits Magazine. I used my favorite Japanese Malt whisky, The Shin 15 yr, to develop this recipe. The wagyu tallow, blue agave and maple syrup pepper rim took awhile to prep and make; probably longer than it took to create this image. Recipe to follow in a future post!

In the heart of the urban jungle, amidst towering skyscrapers and the distant rumble of a monstrous roar, a legend emerges.

Introducing the “Shadow of Gojira,” a cocktail that captures the ancient spirit of Japan and the modern intensity of a city under siege. Crafted with rare, 96-proof, 15-year-old Japanese whisky, this drink blends yuzu and honey with the sharp tang of blood orange.

Spicy and salty notes from togarashi add thrilling complexity, while the oak smokiness of the dried yuzu garnish evokes Godzilla’s aftermath, where a city stands scarred yet resilient.

As you lift the glass, the coated rim reveals a blend of sweet, salty, buttery, and spicy sensations. As smoke rises, the flavors collide in a dramatic symphony. Sip cautiously, for within this glass lies Gojira’s destruction—powerful, complex, and unforgettable.

To temper its potency, sweetened dried blood orange slices offer a refreshing bite, reminiscent of calm amidst chaos. Ube cookies provide a touch of neutrality, grounding this intense experience with subtle sweetness.
