Eye On Loveland

Eye On Loveland My name is Michael Simms. I'm a local photographer documenting daily life in my home town of Loveland, CO This page is dedicated to Loveland and its people.

I’m a photographer based in Loveland, Colorado, a beautiful little city with wonderful people. I wanted to focus a portion of my photography work to documenting everyday life in this city. My inspiration comes from Roy Stryker’s Farm Security Administration’s photographic project of the 1930s (link at bottom). When a photograph is taken and you see it for the first time, it’s current. You recogniz

e styles, architecture, vehicles, art, etc. Revisit that same image once it has begun to age and its meaning and significance have changed or grown. This photographic log will take a bit of time to build before the images begin to get that special shine of age. I hope you come along for the ride. https://www.loc.gov/collections/fsa-owi-black-and-white-negatives/about-this-collection/

I went to the final event of the Big Beautiful Bluegrass & Brews weekend in Downtown Loveland. The Sunday Bluegrass Jam at Loveland Aleworks. There was a big group of players at this one and they all seemed to be having a jammin' good time. These Jams have such a great community feel. Musicians showing up, making friends. Families relaxing listening to the sweet sweet music. They just have a great vibe happening. 🤠📷🪕🎻🎸

The 2026 Downtown Loveland Bluegrass & Brews is in the books, and what a great event it was. Everyone there was having a great time. I made a handful of passes across the front row to make photographs and had no problems. I would stop for a short bit to make some exposures and then move along, so people were cool with it. It's interesting how certain conditions can lead to an unexpected photograph. Because it was so packed at the front, I did some photographing from the side of the stage which led to some interesting images. Like the photograph of Jeremy Garrett. I really like that photograph. Had I not been hanging around the side due to the front row being full, I would not have gotten it. Another photograph I like is the one taken from the parking garage stairs looking out at The Foundry with the couple sitting on the steps. I was coming back down from photographing the crowd and immediately saw that composition.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the events which have been planned.

What a great day at the Bluegrass & Brews event yesterday in Downtown Loveland. I met some very interesting people, including a Rocket Scientists who had done work for NASA on Gemini & Apollo! The musical line up was spectacular and everyone really seemed to be enjoying the day. I also ventured up to 4th street to see what was happening and found a guy who was playing some sweet jams at the pocket park.

Looking forward to more live music today at the Loveland Aleworks Bluegrass Jam. 📷🎸🪕🎻

I gotta hand it to the Downtown Loveland folks. They put together a real Bluegrass Banger of a day. For FREE!... The musicianship at times was simply face melting.🫠 While The Infamous Trio was playing, closing out the night, I went up top to see what the crowd looked like. My timing couldn’t have been better.

Last night was a great time. Everyone I encountered was having a good time and grooving to the sweet music being put down by Pixie and the Partygrass Boys. We are so fortunate to have the Downtown District Team that we have. Not only are they doing a great job at bringing back Downtown Loveland, but their hearts are in it, and it shows. Block #5 was so pleasant to spend time at. I met many Lovelanders last night, and I also met people from surrounding towns as well as someone from New Zealand.

I’m looking forward to today! Day 2. There will be 8hrs of Sweet Bluegrass Jams at The Foundry. 📷🎸🪕🎻

Tonight was the start of Downtown Loveland's Bluegrass & Brews. It was held on the new 4th street Block #5. I have to say… Block #5 turned into a really nice event space, and it was pleasant to be there. You could get a feel for how nice our downtown is going to be once the project is done.

Pixie & The Partygrass Boys opened the weekend, and they were Awesome!

In this set of photographs the crew had already poured the crosswalk and were now working on the Valley Pan in the center of the street as well as the Bollard Band adjacent to the crosswalk. The Bollards are a new edition to Downtown Loveland and provide a simple and secure way to close off the roadway for the events. Much more secure than the movable barricades that had been used in the past.

In these photographs you can see how re-enforced the bollard receptacles have been created. Great Work! I have also included some photographs of a different crew installing some of the new traffic controls. I missed photographing the remaining concrete pour for the roadway. But to bookend the series I have included my original photograph from my initial post showing the completed section.

Once the North curbing was done in Downtown Loveland the crews moved to create and pour the South curbing. I was curious how the metal plates for the cross walk were placed so I made sure to get some photographs of that work. Plus there was a section of the North curbing which needed to be finished and that was included in this pour.
