I am holding on to summer for as long as I can. I am absolutely not ready for the hustle and bustle of school starting and all the fall activities that follow. Autumn is my favorite season, but there is something special this summer with our slow living and lack of plans that have allowed so much margin to connect and grow.

I just have to take a minute to tell you all how grateful I am to have found someone like .photo in this photography journey.

I first encountered Britney when I picked up her placenta to encapsulate from the hospital in 2017 (yes, I used to encapsulate - I have worn many hats🧢👒🎩). I didn’t recall that she had contacted me earlier that year wanting to hire me to document her birth but it didn’t work out 🥹❤️ So to my knowledge we just had the one encounter.

Fast forward to 2021 when we decided to move back to the US and I re-opened my business - Britney and I got connected and immediately built a friendship beyond just wanting a solid backup for birth photography. In the fall of 2022 we renovated and opened a studio together.

Listen, I have NEVER fought with a friend much less a colleague like I have Britney. We cry and say unintentional hurtful things and say are able to say “ouch” and work through hard conversations. And we are stronger for it. There is no passivity. It is by far the most work I’ve ever put in to a friendship.

Here is the thing - because of this strong bond, I can trust that Britney has my back - talking highly about each other to others (clients, colleagues, etc..) ✅, Never price undercutting ✅, sharing shooting locations ✅, sharing thousands of dollars worth of client dresses, newborn wraps, props, etc..✅, sharing photography tips ✅, watching each others children when we need it ✅…. Honestly I could go on and on and on. She is my Christina in the photography world but has become that in life as well now living on the same block and our children attending the same school. ❤️💙🦉

Many know that I have battled mental illness for several years since living overseas and *shocker* the pandemic. I’ve combatted it with all the things - therapy, medicine, communal and familial support, more structure, less burdened responsibilities, diet/exercise, more quality sleep, all the mood boosting drinks sold by all the pyramid marketing schemes (and others), getting more sun, doing the life-giving things, etc… I HAVE TRIED ALL THE THINGS…

I haven’t shared in a while. There has still been some magic that has been created…slowly but surely. This session was particularly healing for us both - this mother and myself✨
