A little preparation goes a long way! Here are a few things I came up with (at 1:00am this morning 😂) to keep in mind before your session to help us get the best photos possible!
☀️ Time of Day Matters!
* Earlier sessions = brighter images, stronger sunlight, and a higher chance of squinty eyes (especially from kids… and husbands 🤪).
* Later sessions = softer light, more shade, and that beautiful golden glow everyone loves.
FYI - I’m not saying we can’t do earlier sessions! We’ll just have to be creative and find the perfect spot!
💨 Wind
If the wind is blowing 15+ mph and you have long hair… we might be in for an adventure! If needed, we’ll move to a location with buildings or trees to help block the wind.
🍂 Fall Weather in Lubbock
The later in the year you schedule your session (late November, early December), the more unpredictable the weather becomes. Lubbock can be warm one day and cold, windy, and questioning all of our life choices the next.
☁️ Cloudy Days
Don’t panic if it’s cloudy! Overcast skies can make for beautiful photos. Just know they create a different look than a bright, sunny evening. Instead of light and airy, your images will have a softer, moodier feel.
🐶 Lint Roll, Please!
If you’re wearing darker colors (black, navy, charcoal, maroon, etc.), give your outfit a quick lint roll before you leave. We all love your furry family members, but if they aren’t joining us for the session, let’s keep them out of your photos too!
🕶️ Transition Glasses
Transition lenses are wonderful… until photo time. If you wear them during your session, they’ll likely darken outdoors and may hide your eyes in your photos. If that’s fine with you, it’s fine with me!
⌚ Hair Ties & Watches
Take a quick look before we start! Remove hair ties from your wrists and your Apple Watch (or any watch of the sort) if you don’t want them showing in your photos.
🍬 One Last Thing…
Spit out your gum before we start. Trust me on this one. 😄
Most importantly, relax and enjoy your family. The best photos come from genuine moments, not perfect poses. I’ll guide you through everything along the way!
