Once upon a time, when women were birds, there was the simple understanding that to sing at dawn and to sing at dusk was to heal the world through joy. The birds still remember what we have forgotten, that the world is meant to be celebrated.

…For far too long we have been seduced into walking a path that did not lead us to ourselves. For far too long we have said yes when we wanted to say no. And for far too long we have said no when we desperately wanted to say yes.

…When we don't listen to our intuition, we abandon our souls. And we abandon our souls because we are afraid if we don't, others will abandon us.

Recently there were a pair of swans nesting on the lake nearby. It appeared as if all was well until one day the swan on the nest was dead. Alive that morning, no visible or apparent reason for it's death but it's beautiful body was spread out across the nest, head floating on the shallow water. In the days that followed, the partner Swan stayed with or near the nest sometimes hanging out in the middle of the adjacent field, looking lost and forlorn. Seemingly not knowing what to do with him/herself. This act of standing vigil has continued now, for three weeks. Grieving and protecting its mate is all that matters for this time.

I have read that swans are among the few species that mate for life. When they lose a partner, they might actually die of a broken heart, refusing to eat, they can lose strength and eventually pass away in the same location. This particular swan appears to be eating some, fortunately. Hopefully he/she will some day carry on to find a new role and life mate to share better times. 🩵🤍💜

❄️Hope you all are making it through this cold snap and staying warm!❄️
February is nearly here and we are sharing our February needs list to help keep our shelter running smoothly & keep our residents comfortable.
❤️If you are able to help with any of the items on our list, we would be very grateful! Donation drop off can be coordinated by giving us a call at 715-825-4414.
Thank you for always showing up for our shelter and the survivors we serve- we truly couldn't do this without YOU!
🐻We are also looking for SMALL gently used or new stuffed animals to be used during child S.A.N.E. exams. These give comfort to them as they are dealing with a very emotional time in their young lives.

Ahhh, Spring is springing! Sandhills, geese, swans, new birdsongs are all of a sudden very present. Lots of sunshine, rich earthy smells, life is awakening. How does it ge any better?!
Yesterday I set out hoping to see the swans, and happily found them in the open water at the far north end of the pond. I invited them to come a little closer, where I could see them better, and to my surprise, they did! What a glorious time it is, the Equinox is just a few days away. HAPPY SPRING everyone! 💚🩵💛
