On this particular proposal evening I was crouched down hiding in the woods, waiting for the couple to arrive, as it started to rain 🙃 Thankfully it passed quickly. And she said yes 🙂

This engagement session gave me room to create something a little unexpected, and I’m here for it. My goal has always been to photograph environment and weather and emotion exactly as they exist, rather than trying to turn every session into the same version of “beautiful.” Sometimes that means clear skies and sunset views. Sometimes it’s fog and cuddling in the rain, and somehow that becomes the whole point.

One thing I’ve realized while shooting weddings and events is that I’ve already been making a lot of the kinds of images I’d love to create commercially, just in different contexts: food and beverage details at weddings, hospitality spaces during elopements, farms during family sessions, aviation(!) for a senior session.

I’ve been wanting to put more focus into commercial work, particularly hospitality, food and beverage, lifestyle, and outdoor brands. So if your business is in need of fresh imagery, give me a shout. I’d love to collaborate on commercial and brand photography.

There’s something extra special about photo sessions in a place that already means something to you.

Your own farm. Your family’s land. The house you raised your kids in. The field you walk through every day without really thinking about how beautiful it is.

I love the idea of creating photos that don’t just document what your family LOOKS like right now, but also WHERE this season of your life is happening.

So yes, I’ll absolutely come to you.

Farm sessions, home sessions, family property, animals included.

Even elopements in the mountains are all different. Sometimes they’re fun and celebratory, sometimes they’re quiet and reflective.

Granted, there were liquor shots after the vows. But this was one of those quiet evenings. The three of us watched the sky turn a hundred different shades as the sun set behind the mountains, and I took some of my favorite elopement portraits to date.

Good thing I love doing this SO MUCH because climbing rocks with two cameras is a challenge. Props to all of you who also get down on one knee on top of a bunch of rocks.

But seriously, surprise proposals have become one of my favorite things to photograph. There’s something oddly fun about helping plan the whole thing, pretending I’m definitely not there waiting for you (just awkwardly photographing birds and trying not to fall), and then getting to photograph what happens next.

Congrats to these two, who got engaged in Shenandoah NP last month!

**Edit to add: I truly believe everyone is entitled to their personal beliefs and should have the freedom to share them. That said, please refrain from sharing your beliefs on my business page. This is where I showcase my work, and share the celebrations of my paying clients. If you don’t agree, please move along. Thank you! 😊

A summer wedding at Big Meadows Lodge, with botanical details woven throughout, from the bride’s embroidered wedding dress to the surrounding Shenandoah landscape. A quiet ceremony with their closest people, followed by golden hour portraits at some of my favorite overlooks in the park.

There are a lot of ways to get married in Shenandoah. Hiking might be the obvious one, but you can plan your elopement around whatever feels like you.

These two brought their motorcycle, hiked up a mountain (in wedding attire, no less), and exchanged vows overlooking the valley. A pretty good example of making your wedding day entirely your own. Just tell me what you want to do, and we’ll figure out how to make it happen!
