At Celery Fields in Sarasota, an adult Nanday Parakeet feeds its hungry juvenile, sharing both food and affection under the morning sun.
Native to South America, these brilliant green parrots have found a second home here in Florida, thriving in our parks and wetlands. Their playful chatter, close family bonds, and dazzling plumage make them a favorite among birders and photographers alike.
Though listed as Least Concern, wild populations abroad face pressure from habitat loss and the pet trade — a gentle reminder to admire, not acquire, the wildlife we love.
