πποΈ CLEVELANDβS NEXT BIG SPORTS LANDMARK IS TAKING SHAPE! ποΈπ
If youβve been down along the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland lately, youβve probably noticed a HUGE new building rising across from Rocket Arena β the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center, the future home and practice facility of the Cleveland Cavaliers! ππ₯
π Located along the Cuyahoga River in the Flats, this massive facility will contain more than 210,000 square feet and is being designed to be one of the most advanced sports training and performance centers in the world.
Construction officially began in October 2024, and the building has already reached major milestones, including the completion of its structural steel frame. The current schedule calls for the facility to open in 2027, with recent reporting indicating the public-facing Cleveland Clinic portion is expected to open around August 2027. ποΈ
π THE NEW HOME OF THE CAVS
The Cavaliers will move their basketball operations and practice facility here from their current facility in Independence. The center will feature state-of-the-art training, recovery, sports science and performance technology designed to help NBA players perform at their highest level.
But here's the really interesting partβ¦
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ THIS ISN'T JUST FOR THE CAVALIERS!
The Cleveland Clinic portion will be open to the general public, making this a unique facility where everyday athletes can have access to many of the same types of technology and expertise used by professional athletes.
Services are expected to include sports medicine, orthopedic care, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, nutrition, psychology, genetics, exercise physiology, testing, training and recovery.
πββοΈπββοΈβ½π Whether you're a professional athlete, a high-school athlete, a weekend runner or simply interested in improving your health and fitness, the facility is being designed to serve athletes of all ages and ability levels.
π AND THEN THERE'S THE ROADβ¦
One of the most unusual architectural features is something you might not expect from a sports complex β a public roadway actually passes THROUGH the building! π²
A new Eagle Avenue connection is being constructed to link the upper downtown/Gateway area with the Flats and riverfront. Because of the complicated railroad tracks, elevation changes and existing infrastructure, the roadway will pass through an illuminated tunnel-like opening incorporated into the center of the building.
In other words, you're literally going to be able to drive through the Cavaliers' new performance center! ππ
The project is part of Bedrock's much larger Cuyahoga Riverfront redevelopment, a multi-billion-dollar effort that will transform large portions of Cleveland's riverfront with new development, public spaces, trails and connections to downtown.
π³ The project will also help create new public riverfront space, including a riverwalk, green space and even a public kayak launch.
When completed, this won't simply be a new practice facility for the Cavaliers. It will be a combination of NBA training center + Cleveland Clinic sports medicine facility + public health and performance center + major piece of Cleveland's riverfront redevelopment.
πποΈπ Cleveland's riverfront is changing dramatically β and the Global Peak Performance Center is just the beginning!
DRONE OHIO IS ALWAYS HAVING FUN!!!
