When fall showed up for Courtney & Thom! This fall we finally got some really rich colors and it was so beautiful! Just like these two! What started as a series of rescheduled sessions and changing locations, ended up being a perfectly moody sky day in their favorite neighborhood at their favorite restaurant, eating some delicious pie (which I absolutely had to order some too and take home to the kiddos!) Such a fun engagement session! Can't wait for your wedding day!

When I'm having a hard day, feeling stuck in whatever overwhelm it is...kid chaos, laundry piles, house a wreck, busy photo season, ... my husband is so good at gently reminding me "Its not forever."

And he's so right. The overwhelm, the messes, they aren't forever. But the heartbreaking thing about life is just that...these fleeting sweet times in our lives don't last forever either. A growing toddler, a growing belly that means a growing family, that age when they mispronounce the word "granola" and you secretly hope they say it that way forever.

These moments in our lives our so short, and "It's not forever" is exactly why I'm here, with my camera, capturing these days for you. A fall photo, a wedding day, or photos *just because*.

It rained. All day. Allllll day. But there was no way these two would let it get in the way of their joy.

Did we have umbrellas? Sure. Didn't use them much though! D&J and all their friends and family showed up with smiles on despite some soaked hem lines and damp hair.

When you think about the priorities for your wedding day, if perfection is the goal, disappointment is likely to follow. But embracing the uncontrollable, like rain, or whatever happens (because things inevitably do) will allow your joy to shine through your day.

So when I think back about their day, yes, I think about the rain, and then I think about how the bride & groom just rolled with the punches. Their attitudes is what allowed them to enjoy every minute of their day, even the rain.

And yes, there was a backup plan for indoors at the incredible (and the owners Mackenzie & Paige where there with every weather app tracking the minute by minute to see if the outdoor ceremony was a possibility!)

Spoiler: the rain broke at the perfect time, for their quick vows and downpoured *DIRECTLY* afterwards!

Something about photographing seniors is just so ... exciting. Their optimism, energy, and outlook, is just contagious. They are in this transition...last year of high school, holding on to their youth, and getting ready to step out into the world as adults. But also, just *so* smart, and put together, and how did I even ever survive as a teenager (did I ever drink water?).
Wow, K is such a smart, kind, and interesting human, and I know she'll be bringing amazing things into the world! Can't wait to see what you do!

The weather (and smokey haze), the great attitudes, the outfits, the willingness to be a little silly, and most importantly, the love. ❤️

It was a wonderful summer photo night with a family I'm blessed to call my friends (and Godparents to one of my kiddos!)
