Four Years Apart.
Same Pose.
Completely Different Kids.
I didn't run out of ideas; I ran out of time.
These two images currently are sitting side by side on my screen, and honestly? They hit differently today.
Same family.
Same setup.
Four years between clicks of the shutter.
And yet everything has changed.
The little kid with one missing front tooth and another hanging on by a thread now has all his "big" teeth.
The big sister who towered over her brother? She’s almost eye-level with Mom (and has a fresh set of braces).
This is why I do what I do, with intent.
Not because I love my camera (I mean, I do). But because I've learned (the hard way) that these seasons don't ask permission before they end.
I have two kids who are "grown and flown" now. And let me tell you something no one warned me about... getting everyone in the same location for a photo is no longer easy.
It's no longer common.
Our family portraits now require calendars, occasional flights, and a small miracle.
It makes me sad, with a quiet ache, when I scroll back and realize I didn't know "that" was the last time everyone would be under one roof like that.
And you won’t either.
So, here's my gentle nudge for the families I work with or I haven't had the opportunity to work with yet...
The portraits you keep putting off?
The ones you'll schedule "when the kids are a little older" or "when things calm down"?
Book them now.
Skip the fancy coffee for a while.
Hold off on that luxury bag.
I promise you, that latte or designer bag isn't what you'll hold onto when the days of parenting everyone under one roof are over.
