Relle and River somehow convinced their whole family to hike two miles to an alpine lake before sunrise for their wedding.

Two miles might not sound like much, but this trail is steep. There was ice. It was cold. It was definitely an adventure for the whole crew.

But they made it up in time to catch alpenglow on the peaks during the ceremony, which made the early alarm very worth it.

When my friends asked me if I would photograph their backpacking elopement, I could not have been more excited.

This kind of thing wouldn’t be for everyone, but for them it was perfect.

They hiked 7 miles into the backcountry in late October, to an alpine lake at 11,000 feet. Saying their vows as the sun dipped behind the mountains, followed by homemade noodles cooked by a friend, and a dance party under the stars — a 10/10 weekend!

Yes, it was very cold and also very worth it.

Hi, I’m Mandy, the artist behind the camera.

I’m equal parts adventure-seeker and homebody. I spend my free time bouldering or cuddling with my cat Willow, and I’ve spent pretty much my whole life making art.

Before wedding photography, I spent 15 years making fine art sculpture and photographs, and I think that’s still a huge part of how I see and photograph a wedding day.

I love big landscapes, interesting light, and cinematic images, but I also really care about making the experience feel fun and easy.

I’ll scout locations, help you think through logistics, offer recommendations, and generally go above and beyond to make sure you can actually enjoy the day we’re planning.

The Alabama Hills is one of my favorite locations for every season except summer. It’s perfect mid winter, and is often the back up plan for elopements booked during possible snow months. It sits right at the foothills of Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in lower 48, and allows you to get that desert feel while also having some the most epic mountain peaks behind you.
