The "Space Ship" Petroglyph: Controversial... But Not Alien.
One of the most talked-about petroglyphs in Nine Mile Canyon, Utah, is the so-called "Space Ship" petroglyph. Its unusual shape has fueled decades of speculation, with television shows like Ancient Aliens suggesting it depicts extraterrestrial visitors.
But that's not what this video is about.
While the mystery is part of what makes this panel so fascinating, there is no evidence that it depicts aliens. Archaeologists have proposed more grounded interpretations, including that it may represent a shield-bearing warrior or, according to another theory, a later Indigenous depiction inspired by the arrival of a railroad locomotive. Like much of ancient rock art, its true meaning may never be known.
In this video, I explore the petroglyph with curiosity and respect, sharing the different interpretations while appreciating the incredible creativity and cultural legacy of the Indigenous people who created it. To me, that's what makes this panel so compelling—not because it's evidence of extraterrestrials, but because it reminds us that ancient art can challenge our assumptions and invite thoughtful discussion.
Sometimes the greatest mystery isn't what we're looking at—it's how easily our own imaginations fill in the blanks.
What do you think this petroglyph represents? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments—but let's keep the discussion respectful and grounded in curiosity.
