Chuck Ramsey Photography

Chuck Ramsey Photography I am a Nature and Wildlife photographer and I invite you to share the adventure, through my lens! Thanks for your time and interest.

I am very active and love the outdoors, hiking, watching animals or birds, and traveling to new places. I have been an avid photographer for 40 years or more and capture images everywhere I go. I love sharing my photos with you and hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I did making them. Here on Facebook, I share some of the images from my website, but due to Facebook limitations, the images are

not full-resolution. On my website, you can view images in full resolution and also see the complete gallery - as it exists on any given day. I am capturing new images almost every day and I add new images to the gallery on a regular basis, so visit often. Chuck Ramsey

Sunset at Lahaina Harbor

I captured this image just after sunset, February 26, 2021. This image has always been one of my favorites. So many good memories in Lahaina, I look forward to making new ones in the future.

Lahaina Evenings...

We used to love going out into Lahaina Town at night. So many people, so much life! I took this image on March 13th, 2020, and it shows people shopping, enjoying Shave Ice, and watching Glass Blowing in the window at the left. Look at each image to see my comments.

It was good to see many of these same vendors and artists in different locations this year - Cannery Mall, Food Trucks, and other shops. We look forward to the day when we can gather in Lahaina again for beautiful sunsets and warm evenings...

Stormy Weather Breach

We were out on a late afternoon whale watching trip in pretty stormy weather. We saw a good deal of activity closer to Molokai, so we headed out into the channel, and the waves got pretty large. This whale did several breaches as we got closer, but as we rode the waves up and down, it was only visible part of the time.

We were climbing out of a trough when this breach occured out the top of a wave some distance from us. I was lucky to get this one!

Click on both images to get my comments...

Rainbow over downtown Lahaina, December 2017

We had been out on a late afternoon whale watch, and as we approached the harbor, this rainbow made a brief appearance. The large building to the left, with the flag flying, is the Lahaina General Store, where Fleetwood's on Front St. was located.

Birds of Hosmer Grove

We have been up to Hosmer Grove, just inside Haleakala National Park, twice in the last 10 days or so. This is one of the best places to see some of the Hawaiian Honeycreepers, as well as other birds. This set shows 3 of the birds we saw during these trips. I will add notes and comments under each photo, so please click the photos to see the information.

Lava Tube at Black Sands Beach

It was tricky to get a shot where both the water and the cave had decent light. This one worked pretty well 😎

This album will contain all the best images from the titled trip with Ultimate Whale Watch & Snorkel. I have added comments under each image to explain the behavior shown, or in the case of the moon and the bird, why those images are included.

I will add more images to this album as I continue to identify and develop them. Stay tuned...

Whale Peekaboo..

This is a Mother and her Calf. The Mother is beginning a shallow dive, and the Calf, who has been staying pretty close to her, surfaces and spouts right behind her. I caught this image just as the Calf emerged from behind. I think this may end up being my favorite of the day, but I have many more images to process...

We went out with Ultimate Whale Watch & Snorkel on February 28th, 2026, at 07:10. The boat was the Wahine Kai, with John in the Captain's seat, and Charley was our naturalist.

This was an excellent trip! Mothers and Calves, Pectoral Slaps, Peduncle Throws, Tail Shots (like the one below), and the grand finale was a Competition Pod with probably 7 whales. I will add many more images to this post as I process them.

The high-resolution images will also be posted in the Whale Watching Trips Collection in a Gallery for this date.

Humpback Mother & Her Calf

Take a close look at this one to really see and understand the difference in size. This calf is probably about 2 weeks old. In another 5 or 6 weeks, it will make the 3,000-mile journey to the feeding grounds in the North Pacific with its Mother. I find this truly incredible and awe-inspiring. Even more amazing is that the Mother does not eat on the journey down, then gives birth and nurses her baby, and still makes the return journey without eating.
