There’s something pretty special about creating a piece of history while floating on it ⚓️

I recently had the chance to make my own lightship basket bracelet with and aboard the Nantucket Lightship with the incredibly talented Abby Fisher of —and it was such a unique, hands-on experience.

Lightship baskets date back to the 1800s, when sailors stationed on lightships (floating lighthouses!) would weave these intricate baskets during long stretches at sea. Originally crafted from rattan with wooden bases, they were both practical and beautiful—eventually becoming one of Nantucket’s most iconic traditions.

Getting to learn even a small part of that craft, right on the water, felt like stepping into a piece of New England history. And now I have a bracelet that’s not just pretty—but tells a story.
