The WinterBadger Collection

The WinterBadger Collection The WinterBadger Collection combines the photographic talents of Rob Badger and Nita Winter.

Internationally acclaimed conservation photographers Rob Badger and Nita Winter have
been life partners and creative collaborators for almost four decades. They have dedicated
their lives to emotionally connect more people to Nature, and to use their unique styles of
visual storytelling to inspire hope and action and create positive change. In 1992, they discovered and fell in love with California

's spectacular wildflower super
blooms in the Mojave Desert's Antelope Valley California Poppy Preserve. This life-changing
experience inspired their 30-year journey to artistically document wildflowers throughout the
West, and later, in 2011, to create their documentary art project, “Beauty and the Beast:
Wildflowers and Climate Change.”
Their magnificent collection of “in the field” floral portraits and superbloom landscapes
features hundreds of native species. To more creatively interpret the wildflowers’ beauty,
Rob developed two unique photographic techniques, the “Contact” and “Wrapped” series. Their project portraying California’s world-renowned biodiversity evolved to include "Beauty
and the Beast: California Wildflowers and Climate Change," and its 12-time award-winning
coffee table book, and companion educational, traveling exhibit, seen by over 100,000
visitors. In 2022, the San Diego Natural History Museum created a custom, large print
version of their exhibit. In 2020 Rob and Nita received the Sierra Club's Ansel Adams Award for Conservation
Photography for their wildflower project and Rob’s 40 years of conservation and environment
issues work. To learn more about them and their work, please visit their website at

Labor Day always lands a little differently for people who make things for a living.

Today's slower pace is a good reminder of the effort behind every finished work, including "Rufous Hummingbird at Scarlett Fritillary, Oregon - Natural Background," today's feature.

Slow it down and take some time to browse my online gallery this weekend.

Today's design reminder: one of the easiest ways to create a cohesive space is by paying attention to tone rather than theme.

A warm wood frame paired with warm wood floors, or artwork with cooler tones in a room that already leans cool, can instantly make a space feel more intentional.

Nothing has to match perfectly. Wood grains don't need to be identical, and neither do the colors throughout your room. Simply deciding whether your space feels predominantly warm or cool is a great place to start.

And don't be afraid to mix in the opposite tone here and there. A little contrast often adds the interest that makes a room feel complete.

Today's Feature: "Cobweb Thistle - Wildflower with Spikes and Dew Drops"

There's a moment every collector remembers, standing in front of a work and just knowing.

"Checkerbloom, Ring Mountain Preserve, California" has had that moment with a few collectors.

What's the story behind the first work of art that ever stopped you in your tracks?
