As an event photographer, and as a photographer in general, I’ve been very fortunate to be in some very cool situations and document some incredible events. I’ve met many awesome people, seen unimaginable events, heard many wonderful people speak, been in rooms with celebrities, and behind the scenes with access to places I would not have had, had it been for photography. While I’m still honored to be in these locations, at the end of the day I have a job to do. Some of the items start to be normalized and I become desensitized to the people I’m are around. The cool factor is always there, but being present in rooms with certain people becomes normal in a way.
When I heard Bob Saget passed away it sparked a memory. I recalled the time back in 2010 when I photographed him at an event for Temple University. My job for this event was to capture only the event as you can see by the podium images. At the last minute I was pulled into the green room to capture a ‘very quick’ snap shot of him and some guests. Cool, no worries. Let’s do it. Normally this is time to also document the behind the scenes and truly capture the essence of the day. Since this was a ‘hey we need this shot only’ ask, I did not take any other photos. I do though recall the energy in the room. The warm and charismatic ways and just over all good feeling Bob had about him filled the room. His charm and how he greeted everyone individually. I recall a soft spoken man who possessed such positivity and a feel of over all sincereness. It was a true pleasure to watch. Thank you for that experience Bob. The world lost a good human.
