Brandon Rieck, creator of Wanderlust Imagery, is an adventure videographer and photographer located in Marquette, MI. He has spent his whole life finding adventure in unlikely places. After moving to the Upper Peninsula to attend Northern Michigan University, he soon discovered his passion for storytelling. The world lost a legend yesterday❤️

“Sketchy” Andy Lewis was a huge proponent of getting me into the world of highlining. When I was first told about the GGBY event in 2016, I immediately started looking up YouTube videos of highlining in Moab. I found myself going down a rabbit hole of insane death defying stunts of Andy’s that filled me to the brim with stoke. Watching him conquer these fears motivated me to make the road trip out to Moab and give it a try for myself after seeing what he was capable of. His giant spacenet was prominently featured in a lot of the GGBY content, and you can see him BASE jumping off it towards the end of this segment in the film. I wish I had gotten a chance to sit down and interview him as part of the film to get some of his perspectives, though I’ll always cherish the few interactions we had and the impact he had on my life. I remember having the opportunity to visit his house my first time in Moab, where they had strung up a tree net in the backyard, which was one of the coolest things I’d seen. I couldn’t help but feel so lucky to have been invited over and welcomed into their space to share an evening with the icon that Andy was. Thank you for being such an inspiration in the sport that’s become such a large part of my life.

Slackline struggles💦

If you’re a slackliner and have walked a water line, then you already know some of the difficulties involved. If not, what you’re looking at is an attempt to pull the line close enough to the water in order to get back on top to start walking again. The issue here was that the line was simply too high to reach, even with the added webbing dangling down. If this method had worked, it would prevent the need of swimming back to shore and walking around to one of the anchors to restart. The scrap webbing had originally been added as a wind dampening so that the line didn’t shake so violently, so the placement wasn’t thought about too much.

Realistically, there were many things that we less than ideal with this rig, such as it being very off level and low tension, resulting in only a small section being walkable. Regardless, we were still stoked to have rigged up a brand new slackline while exploring the island of Hydra in Greece.

What a phenomenal aurora show we had here in South Haven, MI last night! The first night of auroras were covered by clouds, but we got lucky with clear skies and a good forecast the second time around.

I've seen some pretty insane displays before, and wasn't sure what this storm would bring, but very glad I drove down to the lakeshore! I didn't have any cameras with me, or even a phone, so I was left with what my eyes could see. There wasn't much at first, but I slowly started to see some of the pillars beginning to dance as the storm intensified and faint glows of red were visible. It wasn't until I got a glimpse over the shoulder of someone taking pictures on their phone that I realized how active they actually were. In that moment I decided to drive straight home to get my camera and come back to capture the display to share with you all. I decided to drive up to the bluff so I could get the iconic South Haven lighthouse in the frame to set the scene for where this took place. It's very rare that we get to see auroras at this level this far south. I'm very lucky to have been here to capture it! This timelapse was taken from 12:30-1am the morning of the 13th.
