Along the winding edge of the Sacramento Delta stands the historic Ryde Hotel. Built in 1927, the Ryde Hotel quickly became an oasis for movie stars and politicians looking for adventure. Legend has it that during Prohibition, a tunnel running from the to the hotel was used to smuggle booze into a smoke-filled room where jazz emanated from the bandstand. You can still visit the Ryde Hotel today. And if you’ve never visited the Delta, make sure to take a ride and explore the area. From historic buildings to wildlife, and artist communities to farmland, there’s something for everyone.

There are few fruits with the mystique and symbolism of the fig. This plump fruit is found in almost every ancient culture and religion and is prized for its versatility. From fine dining to the kitchen table, the delicious ficus can be used in either sweet or savory dishes - or my personal favorite - picked and eaten straight from the tree.
