Ever wished your backdrop was just a LITTLE wider? We've got something for you. 👀

Introducing NEW 16-foot-wide X-Drop Pro Backdrops!

Whether you're photographing an entire sports team, creating group portraits, working with dancers, or filming a wider scene, having enough background space makes a difference.

And now you can get that coverage without joining multiple backdrops together.

Choose the setup that works for you:

⚡ 16' × 8' — A wide, continuous background for groups, teams, and video.

⚡ 16' × 16' — The same generous width, plus an extended floor sweep for full-length portraits and more creative freedom.

Both feature wrinkle-resistant, washable fabric that packs down for easier storage and travel. Just pair your backdrop with two X-Drop Pro stands (sold separately), and you're ready to create.

More coverage. Less compromise.

What would having a 16-foot-wide backdrop change about the way you shoot?

Sometimes the best way to capture a moment is to slow things down. Literally.

Had a great time shooting with everyone at the Canon x Focus Camera event! Huge thanks to everyone who came out, and especially to my friends and partners at Canon USA and Focus Camera for inviting Westcott Lighting to be part of the fun.

And a special shoutout to Ted Kucharski for bringing out his incredible “Busta” and letting us have some fun with it!

For these shots, I broke out Canon’s crazy 7–14mm fisheye, a whole bunch of Westcott Lighting strobes and modifiers, and decided to play with time a little.

Shutter speeds ranged from 1/10th of a second all the way to a full second. All handheld. I even threw in some rear-curtain sync to see what kind of controlled chaos we could create.

The beauty of mixing flash with slow shutter speeds is that you can freeze a moment and let the world move around it. Sometimes that means a tack-sharp portrait. Sometimes it means a happy accident that turns into your favorite frame.

And sometimes it means taking 42 pictures to get the 8 you wanted. 😂

Now I want to hear from you: Which frame is your favorite? Drop the slide number in the comments, and tell me whether you’re Team Sharp or Team Motion Blur

Thanks again to everyone who made the night so much fun. This is exactly why I love getting out and shooting with other photographers!

No fall leaves? No perfect location? No huge studio?

You can still create the look. 🍂

The Westcott X-Drop system makes it easy to bring a polished backdrop into your studio, home, or on location. It’s lightweight, portable, quick to set up, and a great option when you’re working with limited space.

Pair it with a warm-toned backdrop like this one and you can create that rich, seasonal feeling without waiting for the weather—or Mother Nature—to cooperate.

And when you’re finished? Pack it up and make your space something completely different.

I don’t love many photos of myself… so which one did Peter Hurley | Headshot & Portrait Photographer get right — 1 or 2?

Last week I shot a super-short video with Peter highlighting the Westcott Lighting Photography Wagon for a Peter Hurley’s Headshot Crew giveaway.

Peter decided to take the Wagon, ONE light from the Westcott Flex Kit, and me onto the streets of NYC to create some headshots.

Somehow I became the test subject…and dammit, Peter, I actually like these. 😂

So help me settle it: 1 or 2?

And if you want to learn the headshot techniques that can even make me happy in front of the camera, check out Peter’s education platform at Peter Hurley’s Headshot Crew.

Huge thank you to the San Jose Sharks for inviting me back once again to be part of NHL Media Day. This is one of those assignments that simply never stops being cool.

I definitely didn’t grow up a Sharks fan, but somewhere along the way they became my “other favorite team.” Getting to photograph guys like Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, Ivar Stenberg and Alexander Wennberg only makes me more excited to see what this team — and especially this young core — does this season.

And as always, a huge thank you to for giving me gear that is consistent, predictable and easy to use. On a day like this, I want to think about the person in front of my camera, not whether my lights are going to do their job.

Hockey is back. Let’s go Sharks. 🦈🏒
