QUINCEAÑERA
Isabella turned sixteen this year, and even though she didn’t have a traditional quinceañera, she had something else instead. A studio full of the women who made her. Her mom. Her grandmother. Her aunts. And also her dad (hello apple of his eye), her little brother, her grandpa, the guys, all her cousins and her best friend too.
Three generations gathered in one room, all there to witness her step across the threshold from girl to young woman.
And then this frame. Just her. Looking down toward her shoulder. Solemn. Elegant in a way sixteen doesn’t usually let itself be.
Her mom is one of those people who means the world to me, and I think that is part of why this session sat with me the way it did. You can feel a daughter’s posture shift when she knows her mother is in the room. You can see it in her face when she knows she is loved.
Swipe to see this portrait finished, and framed, as art on a wall. No distracting topiaries, furniture, staircases, or other “stuff” in the portrait to take away from her beauty or to compete with the beautiful things you have in your own home.
This is what I want for every young woman I photograph. Not a folder of files on a phone. A piece of art that will outlive the season it was taken in. Because, every young woman is artfully made.
If you have a daughter, a niece, granddaughter, or a goddaughter worth honoring, send me a message. I would love to create a special piece for your and her home.
