We lost my sweet, little, tiny mom about 2 weeks ago. My brother and I wanted to make sure that the folks from Alabama that knew her best were aware of her passing.ββββββββββββββββββ
She was originally from Henderson, KY but met met my dad in Ft Lauderdale after seeing the old movie called "Where the Boys Are." I watched the reruns with her many times over the years and loved it! She and Mark often spoke of how they met up until the day she died.
She was proudest of the fact that after marrying her, my father's first big marital expense was to bury her beloved horse named Dan.
She was a substitute teacher at Cahaba Heights during the 70's and I especially loved the chaos and grief that Mrs. Sample's fourth grade class gave her. I loved sneaking in after 2nd grade was over and stoking the fire. They were a handful! But she adored every minute:)
She was also a fixture at the Cahaba Heights Ballpark for many years and could often be seen up in the scorekeepers box or having coffee and chatting with all the moms. Those were the best of times.
By the time I reached middle school, I had talked her into getting a horse. For the rest of my high school years all our spare time was down at Father Muller's farm on 280 with all our other horse crazy friends.
Once my brother and I left for college, she helped organize the Outback Trail Riders organization near Chelsea and kept herself busy with all things "trail riding" She rode horses all over the mountains of north Alabama and even up into Tennessee.
She loved one thing more than horses β Solomon and Sid. We spent a year living in Alabama while my husband was based at Maxwell and her grandsons scored big time. They acquired a pony for the year:) Many memories were made on the farm that year.
The farm, by the way, was her happiest place of all and she lived there til shortly before her death.
