Things I don’t do often... get in front of my own lens... shoot and edit high key... photograph myself with straight hair. I guess today was the opportunity for all three. I wrapped up several headshot clients and had the beauty dish up, so I went for it. It’s been a while. How often do you get in front of the camera?

Big life events are a great time to take your family portraits (well... anytime is really, but that a post for another day.) Even in a "static" pose, a photographer can capture variety. Using framing and composition, images can vary greatly. I alway love to include a less formal image in a posed set. It really conveys the connection between a family, and my heart sings when an image speaks to me emotionally.

These brothers were photographed in the same spot, with different perspectives. The idea was to create two images to be hung side by side, but have their own identity. It's important to plan your shots ahead of time. Digital photography gives us so much freedom to shoot without much added cost (eg: the cost of film divided by each click) but we still have to plan. Our jobs at photographers go far beyond the act of clicking a shutter.
