This afternoon I’m living the matcha life. A fine powder, Matcha is the result of grinding green tea leaves and stems. The first people to harness the magic of matcha were a devout group of ancient Buddhist monks. They enjoyed the focused calm of matcha hundreds of years before it made its big appearance in Japan. ⠀
⠀
I’m a sucker for stories, but also for real science — matcha is packed with antioxidants and has some disease fighting properties, it also releases sustained energy as opposed to the burst and crash you get from coffee or the PG Tips we grew up on in England. ⠀

My name means “Paradise on Earth.”⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Social scientists believe that names produce a Dorian Gray effect, influencing personality, how we're perceived, and even physical appearance. What does yours mean?⁠⠀⁠⠀
Erum means "Jannat" in Urdu, which translates to 'Heaven' in English. It is also frequently spelled as Irum and Iram.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
In Persian folklore it also refers to the story of King Shedad who wanted to compete with God and said that he would create Baghe 'Erum' (heaven on earth). To create this heaven he used up all his wealth and power, and even took money from the poor. He made it so beautiful that it was heard to have fountains of wine and milk and rocks of the most precious gems that one could ever imagine. His cruelty is said to have upset God and God decided to punish him so that he would never lay eyes on Erum. Just when Shedad was about to enter the gates of Erum he tripped on the steps and died on the spot. 🤦🏽‍♀️⁠⠀

I am grateful to 2020 for being the year that brought the world to its knees and forced us to reassess many of our 21st century ways of living.⁠⠀

2020 showed us how to accept what we cannot change. Showed us that the best laid plans can be subject to change or simply evaporate into the ether.⁠⠀
۰⁠⠀
We've seen 'untimely' death and illness. It's no doubt been a very trying and challenging time for so many. And yes, we've seen unprecedented levels of mental health issues emerge.⁠⠀
۰⁠⠀
But we've also seen the world, communities, neighbors, and strangers come together in ways not seen for a long time. Random acts of kindness around the world have shown us that our humanity is very much alive and well.⁠⠀
۰⁠⠀
And perhaps 2020 has given us the greatest gift, that of ACCEPTANCE. To know that though we cannot always control some events and circumstances, we can accept with grace what unfolds no matter how difficult or against our will it may appear.🌚⁠⠀
