I’m going to let the photos tell the story and just say this . . . no, I’m not a climber, but my photography ambitions have made me wish I was many times. For that reason I took my colleague up on his invitation to climb at Seneca Rocks, WV last week.

Near the end of the day, after climbing a number of pitches, they suggested we attempt Gunsight to the South Peak Direct. This is climbing the inside of a notch in-between the two fins of this rock formation, seen below in the beautiful photographs by Perry Bennett Photography and David Johnston Photography in the Spring 2021 Edition of Highland Outdoors. They said something like, “You can do it. It’s within your abilities.” Nope, I thought to myself. Yet somehow, my mouth betrayed me and said, “Well let’s go take a look and I’ll tell you if I can do it.” I was still saying no to myself internally. I nearly lost my nerve midway up. The climb is not terribly technical, but the exposure is intimidating as the one video posted here shows. One hand on one side of the fin and the other hand on the other side. I did make it up, and I did make it down. Thanks to Troy our guide (Seneca Rocks Mountain Guides) and the nudge from my colleague.

Why does it take several days for a name change on Facebook and Meta? Idk.
