i love when clients come to me with a specific vision & i get to help bring it to life. two things that sarah reaaallly wanted - a dirt road overpass & to bring their dogs. as i'm going through these for the first time today, i am livinggg for all these photos.

as november is coming to an end i have mixed feelings. ready for my life + weekends to slow down a bit but also i know i'll be bored & missing clients as soon as that happens.

it's so funny, i change favorite niches every session. if i do a couples i'm like ohhh i really like couples. if i do families i'm like ohh but i reaaaally like families. & the list goes on. in the photography community it's stressed that having a niche is important. but what if my niche is just more broad like natural light & pretty pictures & fun memories? there are just toooo many things to capture & share that i don't really want my page or business to be one thing. at least right now :p.

so, right now.. my fav is families. & this fam is especially cool.

i have a confession

i always said no weddings... and then i was like, well.. maybe weddings? & now i’m like, YES! WEDDINGS.

i decided a few months ago that i wanted to give the wedding industry a chance. i love love, i love how white dresses & veils look in photographs, i love the joy & excitement & anticipation a wedding day brings & i would love the opportunity to capture these moments & turn them into lasting memories.

& while i await those opportunities i’m going to take every chance i can get to practice & observe. thankful for other photogs who take me under & give me the space to learn, clients who take their chances on me & styled shoots that look like these 🙌🏼

hey, i have a secret for you.

outfits for photos don't have to be expensive. or hard. yep. in this session i got full creative control over what lexi & juston would wear & i wanted to keep it inexpensive. first, i always stress to check in your closet to see what you already have. there's a really good chance the boys already have pants, everyone has shoes, maybe some layering pieces you can utilize in a different way than you typically wear. after you've done that, start implementing some new pieces.

for this session, i found this dress on amazon for $19. & 2 day shipping, WOO. then for Juston, I went to walmart & found a basic tee for $5, this Wrangler button up for $15 & we just layered them together. to say i'm obsessed with the outcome? understatement.

things that help me & might help you too:
- search pinterest for "family photo outfit ideas" or "engagement photo outfits"
- think of what colors will complement eachother or keep it neutral, both are great
- less matching more coordinating. we don't really need a JT/Britney Spears all denim moment. unless it's your thing then go off
- ask for help, i looooove this stuff

a copy & pasted caption from my instagram but it needs to be said here too -

today marks the completion of october. one of my best business months to date. here’s a little recap :

10 sessions
1 trip to oklahoma
1 ticket to a styled wedding shoot in iowa (this weekend 🎉)
& the one year anniversary of me picking up a camera for the very first time

when i started photography i was so nervous. so nervous that i wouldn’t be good, that i couldn’t communicate with clients & make them feel comfortable, that no one would like my editing or invest in my work. that i wouldn’t be able to juggle it with a full time job & that there was no room for me in this industry. i was dead wrong.

we’ve all heard it before, comparison is a thief. & when you think about it.. you NEVER look aside to others when you’re in a physical race. why? because it will stall you, distract you & prevent you from competing to your best ability. so why do we do that in life? stay the course & keep going. you can do anything. in the end, we aren’t all that different, a lot of our failures just lie in our own limiting beliefs.

so, i’m going to continue to put in work in this space. & although it already serves me so well, i hope it serves me so much more in the future. i have plans.

one year ago today i picked up a camera & for the first time i took photos of a real family. i put the pictures on facebook & in that post i said, "i think i might have found a new hobby" & wow how those words have played out. in the last year i have documented numerous families, seniors & couples. i learned about websites & taxes & manual settings. i learned about time management (& still am ;)) & how fun it is to create lasting memories with my clients.

i felt so incredibly lucky + proud of myself this weekend as i traveled to oklahoma to take ou senior photos. i struggle with imposters syndrome & not thinking my work is good enough. but, my work led me there. i got to travel to another state + spend quality time with my mom at no expense to me because of this "hobby". i am so blessed.

shared a little sneak on my instagram the other day & figured the world of facebook needed to see some from this session as well! loved everything about this evening & her. i love how each outfit & location gave a completely different vibe that created so much variety within one session.

i was chatting with harper during the session & it reminded me that i graduated nearly SIX (!!) years ago. document this season of life + all the rest because soon they just become a blip in your mind.

my books are completely full for the month of october but i am ready to book for november. reach out & let me know if you need a session. every day i am given space to create & connect with you guys & i couldn't be happier. this is funnnnnnn

you guyyyyys.

i had the absolute best sessions this weekend. this one is extra special to me for so many reasons. if you know the walters, you know how great they are. i've been lucky enough to have them in my life since circa 2015-ish. started as babysitting the kiddos to now working for phil at the eye office. i've watched these three grow up right in front of my eyes. taking these i just kept saying hooooow in the world? time is a dang THIEF. cherish it while ya can. & take those family pics while your kiddos are still young enough to let you 🤪. love this sweet fam.

senior sunday.

went to wichita yesterday to capture some senior photos for peyton. the whole session was & is such a VIBE. i tried to narrow down my favorites from the session & i'm still left with over 200 🤪. seniors are so fun.

in my senior package you get up to 3 outfit changes & locations. peyton obviously killed the outfit game. scroll through to see the heat.

still have 1 date in september & 2 in october. holler if ya need me!

my sweet sweet friends.

drove up to topeka on friday to hang out with these three & capture their little family before their big move 🥺. gabby & i have been friends for 7, going on 8 years & this last year is the farthest we've been from eachother. 2 hours. & that distance is about to grow a whole lot more. we've lived in mcpherson together, topeka together, even the same house together. while i am SO elated for the big moves their family is making, my heart is a little broken knowing facetime & occasional flights will be our new norm. im a quality over quantity person & somehow my two very best friends are both going to be on opposite sides of the country for the foreseeable future. why didn't anyone warn me this happens when you're an adult?! forces me to get outta kansas though so that's a good thing :p
