Sometimes the most obvious failures are also the easiest to miss from the ground. 🚁

This recent drone inspection of a solar farm, we identified a string that appeared to be completely offline. A closer look with the drone quickly revealed the cause: a solar module with a hole blown completely through the panel.

The only challenge? The module was sitting above nearly knee-high standing water, making access much more difficult than it looked on the screen.

This is one of the reasons aerial inspections are so valuable. Drones allow us to safely identify critical issues, prioritize maintenance efforts, and provide clear documentation before crews ever step into challenging site conditions.

Have you ever come across a solar module failure that made you stop and take a second look?

One of the best parts of working at solar farms isn't always what we find in the thermal data, sometimes it's also the wildlife we encounter along the way.

During a recent drone inspection, we came across dozens of tadpoles thriving in standing water around the site. It's a great reminder that solar facilities often become home to a surprising variety of natural plants and animals.

What's the most interesting wildlife you've encountered while working out in the field?

🚁 Interior construction progress flights can be some of the most challenging missions we perform.

Unlike other outdoor projects, these often mean no GPS signal, changing site conditions, limited lighting, tight spaces, active crews, and obstacles that require careful planning and precise flying.

Despite these challenges, the value of interior drone documentation is still significant. Aerial fly-throughs provide owners, project managers, and stakeholders with a clear visual record of progress that is difficult to capture from the ground.

A closer look at what goes into a well-built solar project. β˜€οΈ

Before we launch the drone, it's always worth taking a look at the equipment pad. This solar site did a great job with layout, access, drainage, and overall organization. These details may not grab headlines, but it can make a big difference over the life of the project.

🚁 A hot spot from the sky led us straight to a module that needed attention.

During a recent drone thermography inspection, our thermal imagery flagged a module with an unusually hot junction box. After identifying the exact location from the aerial data, we headed out into the field (through plenty of standing water!) to verify the issue.

What we found was an overheating bypass diode creating significant heat in the junction box and affecting nearby cells.

This is why thermal inspections are so valuable. The drone helps quickly locate anomalies across thousands of modules, while ground verification confirms the issue and documents it for corrective action.

This module is headed for replacement before it becomes a larger reliability concern!

Another beautiful day to put the drone in the air! πŸšβ˜€οΈ

Today we're capturing aerial mapping data for one of our surveying clients, turning thousands of high-resolution images into accurate maps and deliverables that help support planning, design, and development decisions.

Drone mapping allows large areas to be documented quickly while providing a detailed aerial perspective that traditional ground methods alone can't always achieve as efficiently.

Many solar module warranties promise 25+ years of performance, but a warranty is only as valuable as your ability to prove a defect exists.

When underperforming modules are scattered across a large solar site, finding and documenting those issues can quickly become a challenge. Drone thermography helps asset owners identify problem modules, collect supporting evidence, and build the documentation needed to support a warranty claim.

From PID and hot spots to other hidden defects, high-resolution thermal imagery can help pinpoint issues before additional production losses occur and provide a roadmap for follow-up testing when required.

The key takeaway? Documentation matters. The better your records and inspection data, the smoother the warranty claim process can be.

🚁 Out at a solar farm this week during a drone inspection when we spotted something, a nest full of eggs!

It’s nesting season, and moments like this are a good reminder that solar sites often become shared spaces with local wildlife. While we’re focused on inspecting modules, electrical equipment, and overall site conditions, it’s equally important to stay aware of the environment around us.

Solar farms and wildlife will continue to coexist, and small moments like this are a reminder to slow down and pay attention to what’s around you.

🚁 Staying busy this spring with thermal commissioning drone inspections across utility-scale solar sites.

These inspections help identify potential issues early during commissioning so owners and EPC teams can move forward with better data and confidence.

From hot spots and string anomalies to installation concerns, drone thermography continues to be one of the fastest and safest ways to evaluate large solar assets at scale.

🚁 Even out in the middle of nowhere, drone mapping tends to attract an audience. πŸ„

This flight captured aerial mapping data for a potential new development site in a rural area, with a few curious cows stopping by to inspect the drone during takeoff and landing.

Drone mapping provides fast, accurate site data for planning, surveying, and development while giving stakeholders a clear view of existing site conditions before construction begins.
