Fun Fact: Referring to their name, jumping spiders can jump up to 50 times their body length. That would be the equivalent of a human jumping roughly 300 feet!

Last of the three macro shots is one of the few pictures I have been able to obtain of a jumping spider! He was hiding in our succulent plants in the backyard. I took maybe 200 photos as he bounced around his little area being a very active little model.

Fun Fact: The first use of flies in a criminal investigation was in 13th century China. The time of death could be estimated by studying the fly population and their larval stages at a crime scene!

Here is another macro shot taken at the Dallas Botanical Gardens. It is a stacked shot of two focal points taken handheld. I have recently moved away from hyper-stacking macro shots getting everything in focus to instead worrying more about composition and just getting the right parts in focus.

This photo is the first macro that I have really come into my own with the process. Taken completely handheld and without a tripod, I maybe took 100 pictures of this ladybug just to get a few to come out in focus!

Fun fact: Turacos are the only birds to possess actual red and green pigments in their feathers! When you look at most birds, the color you perceive is a reflection produced by their feather structure.

One of my favorite birding pictures I have taken this far. I love taking pictures of animals in more interesting poses, and they posed beautifully for the shot!

Fun fact: Tigers' stripes are unique to each tiger just as our fingerprints are unique to each of us. Their stripes are even on their skin! If you shaved a tiger, you would still see the stripes underneath!

Out of the few times I've visited, there has rarely been an opportunity to capture this beautiful tiger. I was luckily able to shoot through the bamboo fence into the forest where he was resting to snap this pic!

Fun fact: vultures are bald due to adaptations of a scavenging lifestyle. It prevents the soiling and matting of feathers when feeding.

Found this wonderful model while shooting birds at the Dallas Zoo. This is also my favorite animal pose to capture. Love the look-back.

This is the first macro of an insect without focus stacking. This little butterfly resting at the top of a flower at the Dallas Arboretum, and after about 15 different shots managed to get this one. It's a great example of just how small the focus plane is when shooting something this small.

Macro photography is taking 400 pictures on a trip to the gardens just to come back and find 20 in focus haha

My second attempt at photo stacking an insect. This time we have Mr. House Fly who was a great subject, and flew away after the shoot. This image is a combined 35 images at extremely small focuses combined to get this resulting image!

P.S. Flies are very hairy when you see them up close!
