There is nothing more frustrating than trying to work on a project in a cramped space. I recently relocated my home office because I was running out of space where I was working, and I feel much more productive being able to spread out and actually put things in places where they are "away" not just out of the way. I think most of us at Patriot Partners Removal have pets of our own, so we know how important they are for our mental health. But we also know how much stuff they have. Leashes and toys and water bowls and toys and so many toys. If we're not careful, we can trip over the animals if they're small, or they can tip us over if they're big. We all need to be aware of where those critters are when we are walking through the house, especially at night. Be sure that leashes are hung up out of the way when they're not in use, water bowls are on absorbent mats to avoid slip hazards, toys are noticeable so we don't step on them. And don't get me started on "landmines" in the yard!
But on the other side of the coin, we have concerns when people have too many pets that they can't care for properly. Animal hoarding is a very serious problem that requires intervention for the health and safety of the animals and the humans. PPR works with dozens of agencies to help remediate hoarding situations, including those that hoard animals, to help find solutions to their serious health issues. A few simple changes can significantly change how your home functions.
The next time you're in the kitchen cooking a meal, notice where your most used items are stored. Are they easy to reach and close to where they get used? If not, maybe a reset of the kitchen is needed to avoid reaching over a hot stove or bending low to get at an item.
When you're getting in and out of the shower or bath, do you have grab bars? Would it make entry easier if you had a few grab bars around the bathroom to hold on to when you're wet and possibly unsteady?
In the bedroom, do you have to climb into bed? Or fall out of it? Having furniture at the correct height can help prevent falls. Are there shoes in the way? Cords running across walking paths? Night lights? Handrails on stairs?

In talking to more and more people in the communities we serve, I'm hearing frequently that seniors want to stay in their homes as long as possible. And I get it.
