Maybe it started with a dress she couldn’t find an occasion to wear.

Maybe it started because life moves quickly.

Maybe it was simply about celebrating the women who came to celebrate her.

However it started, Elaine reached out to me wanting to photograph her and her closest friends during her bachelorette weekend.

So I met them on the East End of Long Island and spent the afternoon documenting their friendship and this particular season of their lives.

They put on dresses they loved, drank champagne, danced barefoot in the grass, laughed—a lot—and eventually ended up with their feet in the pool.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, the emotions caught up with Elaine.

She looked around at these women and was completely overwhelmed by how lucky she felt to have them there.

Life moves quickly. I love that she thought to make photographs of this part of it.

I hadn’t photographed a session quite like this before, but somewhere between the champagne, the portraits, the laughing and the happy tears, I found myself wondering why we don’t document our friendships like this more often. 🤍

I think that feeling comes from seeing something familiar in the photos — a little bit of your own story, your relationship, and this season of your life.

That’s what I want from an engagement session. Something beautiful to keep, yes — but something that feels personal enough that, years from now, you still recognize this version of the two of you.

The excitement of being engaged, everything you’re looking forward to, and this little chapter before the wedding day arrives. 🤍

Your wedding photographs tell the story of one day—but pieces of your whole life have a way of finding their way into them.

Including the animals who have been part of it.

The childhood dog who’s been around longer than your partner.
The cat watching everything unfold from the getting-ready room.
The dog you brought home together.
The one who gets their own tiny place on the wedding cake.

They’re part of the family. Of course they end up in the photographs.

Some photographs are posed... and others I wait for.

The way your hand instinctively settles on her head.

The tiny expressions of a brand-new person you’re still getting to know.

The way you soothe her when she's had enough.

The light catching those impossibly tiny hairs.

Some moments we create together. Others just need to be noticed.

I don’t think one is more meaningful than the other.

I want you to have all of it. 🤍

I want your wedding day to feel like your wedding day, even when we’re making time for beautiful photos.

Of course I’ll guide you when you need it. I’ll find the good light, help with portraits, keep us moving, and step in when a little direction will make the photograph better.

But being your wedding photographer also means knowing when not to step in.

When your dad pulls you in a little tighter.
When your friends see you dressed and completely lose it.
When your new husband has a quiet second to take it all in.
When dinner turns into a kiss across the table, or the dance floor gets a little wild.

Those moments don’t need anything from me except for me to notice them.

I don’t want your memories of your wedding day to be hours spent taking photographs.

I want the photographs to come from a day you were actually able to experience.

A little direction when it serves you. Plenty of space when it doesn’t.

And photographs of all the good stuff happening in between.

So when I say I’m a wedding photographer, this is the part I mean most. 🤍

Someday, someone who wasn’t even here yet will look through your wedding photos.

Maybe it’s your kids. Maybe, years from now, your grandkids.

They’ll get to see you before they ever knew you as Mom or Dad.

They’ll see the people you loved, what your parents looked like, the friends who filled the dance floor, and all the little pieces of a day they’ve only ever heard stories about.

And I think there’s something really special about that.

That these photographs get to live far beyond the wedding day.

That years from now, the people you love most will be able to hold them and see a version of you—and of your family—that they never got to know themselves.

Not just what your wedding looked like.

But who you were, who was there, and how it all felt at the very beginning of this chapter.

That’s the kind of longevity I want your photographs to have. 🤍

The funny thing about newborns is that they never tell you when they’re about to outgrow something.

One morning the pajamas fit a little differently.

Their face looks a little less newborn.

Their legs stretch a little farther across your lap.

And somehow the version of them you were just getting used to has already changed.

So yes, take the photo of the tiny toes.
The sleepy face.
The way they look at you.
The people gathered around them.

Mary + Kevin put a lot of themselves into this day. 🤍

Mary spent the morning getting ready in a beautiful historic home, and months of thrifting went into collecting the silver candelabras that filled the reception. They also made cocktail hour a priority—not just something on the timeline, but time they actually wanted to spend with their guests.

And then there were the moments I couldn't have planned for—the energy as they came out of the church newly married, the view I happened to catch as they drove away together, and all the interactions unfolding around them throughout the day.

So much thought went into the details, but when the day came, they were completely there to enjoy it.

By the rehearsal dinner, the wedding hasn’t happened yet—but everyone already has stories.

Years of them, actually.

Childhood stories. Family stories. The ones friends probably shouldn’t tell into a microphone.

Stories from before you ever met, and plenty from everything that came after.

Maybe that’s what makes this night feel so full.

You’re celebrating what’s about to begin, surrounded by all the people, memories, and years that brought you here.

Tomorrow is about where you’re going.

Tonight holds so much of where you’ve been. 🤍
