What an incredible performance by Flamenco X last weekend at the Southern Theater! 💃🔥

Their show Dances with DalĂ­ was an absolute dream to photograph. The movement, the color, the singers, the musicians, the EMOTIONS! I had a hard time narrowing down the images because they gave the audience so many spectacular moments.

And it was a personal added bonus to look thru my viewfinder and spot someone I used to dance with years ago in Fontana's Cabaret, which made the night even more special! Great to see you Hilde! ❤️

I had the honor of photographing “Who We Are: Stories from the Surge,” a deeply moving collection of stories about the impact of the ICE surge on our Minneapolis community.

Not gonna lie, I had to take some breaks from shooting so I could wipe away tears. It’s been six months since the worst of the surge, but the emotions for so many of us are still so raw. Yet these stories also remind us of the incredible ways our community came together and supported one another in the worst of times.

The white shoes are part of the Ghost Shoes 26 project, created by Minneapolis-based artist Laura Migliorino, and used to mark and remember locations across the Twin Cities where federal immigration agents killed, abducted, or committed violent acts against Minnesotans during Operation Metro Surge. I hope this show finds a way to continue beyond Minnesota Fringe. These stories need to continue to be told, and they need to be heard.

Fringe’s lease hath all too short a date, but fear not! The Redmond Players still have three more performances of That Was Shakespeare: A R***e! I loved getting an early look at the show and capturing some of it through my lens. They bring so much fun to seeing the Bard through Gen Z’s eyes!

The words “visual feast” kept coming to mind as I photographed Combustible Company’s show Machinal at the Southern Theater during their tech run-through for Minnesota Fringe. Machinal is a reimagined look at Sophie Treadwell’s 1928 expressionistic play about a woman trapped in a mechanical society that dictates how women should act and live. Visually striking, provocative, and compelling.

I had the joy of getting a sneak peek and photographing Tyler West at his tech run for his Minnesota Fringe show “Small Minded.”

Clowning, juggling, heartfelt monologues and storytelling, dance, and a little bit of magic, all delivered with an energy level that was off the charts. 🤡✨

I always love performers and storytellers who let you experience what it’s like to walk in their shoes, or in the case of Kismet, follow their immigrant journey from Turkey to the United States. I loved getting the chance to experience this story from their perspective. (And take a few photos along the way!)
