-ANOTHER ADVENTURE-
Super pretty pastel skies greeted Lake Winnipesaukee this morning just before sunrise. I had planned to make the trip up to Sugar Hill to check on the lupine situation, but after sleeping through my first alarm and barely catching the second, I didn’t have enough time to make it to the White Mountains before sunrise. Instead, I decided to stay local and headed over to FAY'S BOAT YARD, Inc., where I was pleasantly surprised by how calm the water was in Smith Cove. The light breeze kept the sailboats from moving too much, allowing me to slow my shutter speed and create a softer, more serene image. The still water also produced some beautiful reflections, perfectly complementing the pastel colors spreading across the morning sky.

For June, Hart's Turkey Farm is offering a free dessert with your meal when you present a completed punch card. Many Main Street shops will be extending their hours for the event including Skål who will be doing a complimentary wine tasting from 3 PM - 7 PM, and participating galleries will be serving refreshments as you explore. -LUPINE DREAMS-
I’ve always been drawn to weathered old barns, and this one in Maine looked like something straight out of a fairy tale, surrounded by vibrant lupines in full bloom. I’d love the opportunity to return to this location at sunrise or sunset, but the clear blue sky on this day provided a beautiful backdrop to the soft pastel colors of the field. The three-hour drive with my friend Mary was well worth it. Along the way, we made additional stops at Old Orchard Beach and Pemaquid Point Light, making for a wonderful day of exploring and photography. This area is also home to a large Amish community, and while photographing the scene, I had the chance to watch a couple of horse drawn buggies pass by, adding even more charm to an already picturesque setting.

-SUNSET SYMPHONY ON SQUAM-
To say that last night’s sunset was incredible would be an understatement! Between the gorgeous sky, the calm lake creating perfect reflections, the dock, and the sailboat, everything seemed to come together perfectly, except for the mosquitoes, which had other plans! I spent nearly two hours chasing the clouds and searching for the best compositions. The evening began on Paugus Bay before I headed to Lake Waukewan, then on to Holderness, New Hampshire. From there, I stopped at Pipers Cove, continued to Little Squam Lake, and finally returned to Pipers Cove for the grand finale. As the sun dipped lower and the colors intensified, all the driving, scouting, and mosquito bites became well worth it. Nights like this are a reminder of why I love landscape photography so much! Sometimes everything aligns, and nature puts on a show that exceeds all expectations. I hope you enjoy!

-THE WATCHER OVER WAUKEWAN-
Yesterday morning’s Full Blue Moonset was absolutely beautiful. On my way to this location, the moon was crystal clear and incredibly sharp to the naked eye. As I got closer, however, a thin layer of high altitude clouds began drifting across it, softening the details and making the moon appear less defined. While the clouds took away some of the sharpness, they more than made up for it by creating a dreamy, diffused glow and some truly beautiful colors around the moon. I captured a similar image from this spot back in the winter, but I wanted to see how the scene would look with the lone birch tree now full of lush spring foliage. Adding to the atmosphere was a thin layer of fog hanging over Lake Waukewan below, creating a peaceful scene.

-A BRIDGE TO THE MOON-
Last night, I tried my luck at photographing the near full “Blue” Moon rising above the Governors Island bridge. According to my moon app, it looked like the moon would come up perfectly centered over the bridge. Unfortunately, I forgot to factor in how long it takes for the moon to clear the tree line. By the time it became visible, nearly 15 minutes had passed and it had already drifted off-center. It then took another 5–10 minutes to break free from the thicker clouds near the horizon. When I captured this image, the moon was still being softly diffused by a thin layer of high altitude clouds. While the scene didn’t unfold exactly as I had envisioned, I was still very pleased with the result. I especially love the ripples on Lake Winnipesaukee and the way they reflect both the moonlight and the lights of the bridge. I also captured the full moon setting this morning followed by a sunrise, but I’ll share those on a later date.

-ALTON AGLOW-
It’s cold, windy, and rainy out there this morning, and I wasn’t about to head out and take pictures today, so I figured I’d share an older photo from the archives instead. There’s no doubt in my mind that this was one of the most intense sunrises I’ve ever witnessed on Lake Winnipesaukee. This photograph was taken about four years ago and marked my very first attempt at capturing a sunrise in Alton, New Hampshire. The lake was kind enough to remain perfectly still, creating some incredible reflections, and I’ve always loved the way the iconic bandstand looks all lit up in the morning light. Having lived in Alton for a year and a half, I’ve since been fortunate enough to witness many beautiful sunrises there, but this one remains the most memorable. It was one of those mornings that reminds you why it’s worth getting out of bed before dawn. Hope you enjoy!

-MORNING FIRE OVER WOLFEBORO-
This morning’s sunrise over Wolfeboro, New Hampshire was absolutely incredible! Before leaving my house in Gilford this morning, I checked the weather report and saw a chance of light rain, but I was hoping it would clear out during the 40 minute drive. Thankfully, I never ran into any rain, although the thick clouds at first didn’t give me much hope for a colorful sunrise. After getting set up and finding a composition I liked, the color suddenly started bleeding through the clouds. The vibrant light didn’t last very long, but it lingered just enough for me to capture some beautiful reflections across the rippling waters of Lake Winnipesaukee. Ironically, I came to this exact spot three days ago and the sky was just as incredible. But after finishing my last sip of coffee, I realized I had left my camera bag in my wife’s car. Needless to say, a few obscenities were shouted that morning, but thankfully I remembered it today!

-RELEASE-
Just one of the many sunrises over the Ossipee Mountains that I’ve been fortunate enough to witness, and this one was especially peaceful and unforgettable. The only sounds, besides the gentle waves of Lake Winnipesaukee lapping against the rocks, were the hauntingly beautiful calls of the loons echoing across the water. As I was driving to this location, I honestly didn’t have much hope for vibrant colors since the clouds were sitting too far east. But not long after I arrived, a few clouds slowly began drifting toward the lake, and the horizon stayed clear enough to create a beautiful sunburst as the sun crested the mountains. I also love how the crystal clear water reveals the small pebbles beneath the shoreline, adding one more peaceful detail to an already amazing morning. I hope you enjoy!

-LAKESIDE LUPINES-
Is anyone else eagerly anticipating lupine season? In just a week or two, these beautiful flowers will begin blooming across New Hampshire and the rest of New England, painting the landscape with vibrant shades of purple, pink, and white. It’s one of my favorite times of year in the White Mountains. Hopefully, everyone will help protect these incredible fields by staying on the paths and avoiding trampling the flowers this season last year it became a pretty big issue in some locations. This photograph was taken just after sunrise at Pearl Lake, yet another breathtaking spot to explore in the White Mountains. I wish you all a wonderful day!!!
