One of my favorite parts of this project is that it doesn’t just look better. It lives better.

To make that possible, Boyd Builders expanded the back of the home, giving this kitchen the room it always deserved. With the larger footprint, Right Angle Kitchens created a layout that feels open, functional, and perfectly balanced. The mix of warm wood, painted cabinetry, natural light, and brass accents gives the space a timeless feel without trying too hard.

It’s always rewarding to photograph a project where great design and quality craftsmanship work together so seamlessly.

A covered porch done right never goes out of style.

This project by GMT Home Designs⁠ blends timeless New England architecture with thoughtful outdoor living. The standing seam metal roof, classic columns, and inviting seating create a space that feels just as comfortable for a quiet morning coffee as it does for a summer evening with friends.

One of the things I appreciate most about photographing homes like this is seeing how the design team balances beauty and function. Nothing feels forced. Every detail has a purpose, and together they create a space that simply feels right.

One of the things I enjoy most about photographing educational spaces is seeing how thoughtful design can shape the daily experience of students and teachers. Pentucket Regional Middle High School is a great example of that.

This remarkable 218,000-square-foot campus in West Newbury brings the middle and high school communities together under one roof while creating bright, welcoming spaces that encourage learning, collaboration, and connection. The soaring commons area featured here is flooded with natural light, highlighted by exposed timber structure, dramatic acoustic ceiling elements, and an openness that makes the building feel both modern and inviting.

Completed in 2023, this $121 million project serves as a centerpiece for the community and demonstrates what can happen when great planning, architecture, and construction come together.

One of the things I enjoy most about architectural photography is working alongside talented professionals who care deeply about their craft. Projects like this Weston estate are a perfect example. Working with Brookes + Hill Custom Builders and the team at DMC Architecture gave me the opportunity to document a home that reflects an extraordinary level of design, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.

What made this project especially rewarding was getting to work with John Hourihan, the project manager who helped guide this estate from concept to completion over nearly two years. Projects of this scale don’t happen by accident. They require thousands of decisions, coordination among countless trades, and a relentless commitment to quality. John played a key role in keeping everything moving forward while maintaining the high standards that define a project like this.

As the sun set and the landscape lighting began to glow, it was easy to appreciate what had been accomplished. The architecture by DMC Architecture strikes that rare balance of being both grand and welcoming, while the craftsmanship of Brookes + Hill brought every detail to life. Everywhere you looked, there was evidence of thoughtful design and careful ex*****on.

Photographing homes like this is about more than capturing beautiful images. It’s about telling the story of the talented people behind them. This Weston estate was a true collaboration between owner, architect, builder, and project manager, and the result is nothing short of remarkable. Projects of this caliber are why I love what I do. They challenge me to bring my best work and remind me how rewarding it is to document exceptional craftsmanship.

Lights On or Off?
One of the biggest questions I get on shoot day is: “Should we turn the lights on?”

For magazine photography, the answer is usually lights off.
Natural light shows true colors and textures.
Artificial fixtures often create glare and hot spots.
Daytime lighting can feel staged instead of timeless.

That said, there are moments when turning them on adds to the story:
– Highlighting a statement chandelier or pendant
– Creating evening atmosphere during twilight
– Balancing low-light rooms that need dimension

The simple rule of thumb: lights off, unless there’s a compelling reason to turn them on.

Architects, designers, and builders—how do you prefer your projects photographed? Lights on or off?
