This lone Coyote has had an injured back-left leg for about 6 months and couldn’t even out-weight on it until I saw him again tonight. He looks remarkably healthy for hunting on 3 legs through the brutal Arizona summer!
It’s not unusual to see a younger Coyote living alone. As they grow, young coyotes often leave their family group to establish their own territory, find a mate, and eventually start a family of their own. During this period of transition, they may spend months living and hunting on their own. Being hurt didn’t help its chances of finding a mate either…
